In the Underdark area of Baldur’s Gate 3 lie many enemies awaiting your demise. Some of them are hulking monsters, some are exploding mushrooms, and some are living blobs of lava. It is the latter we will be looking at defeating in the Underdark. The Lava Elemental in Baldur’s Gate 3 is a formidable enemy that takes some skill to beat. It has a range of attacks some serious resistance, and can bring pain if it gets the chance.
How to beat Lava Elementals in Baldur’s Gate 3
There are two ways to beat the Lava Elemental in Baldur’s Gate 3. The first method is the straightforward way that a basic playthrough expects. The second method is the thinking person’s way.
Learn and adapt
The Laval Elemental has resistance to Piercing and Poison. Unsurprisingly, it is completely resistant to Fire due to it being made almost entirely of burning rock… However, due to its flamy nature, it is vulnerable to cold. If you’re going to make a dent on this guy, whip out your cold spells. Exploit this weakness as best you can.
However, the Lava Elemental has one ace up its sleeve in Baldur’s Gate 3. Using its Magmatic Regeneration skill, it is able to receive 10d6 hit points when starting a turn in lava. This means that to stand a chance of beating it, you’re going to have to lure the Lava Elemental out of the lava. This is where our second, thinking persons, method comes into play.
Cheese the Lava Elemental
Baldur’s Gate 3 rewards out-of-the-box solutions. The beauty of the game is finding out just how inventive you can be and playing your own way. By luring the Lava Elemental out of the lava and onto a ledge, you have now put yourself in a powerful position.
Bring the Lava Elemental onto the ledge; use a move like Misty Step behind it, and then use Thunderwave or Mage Hand to blast the smoldering foe into oblivion. This will sacrifice the chance to loot the Lava Elemental in Baldur’s Gate 3, but that’s a small price to pay to avoid burnt clothing and heat stroke.
