How to beat Hisuian Decidueye Tera Raid in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

This is a tough one!

Decidueye is arguably the coolest Gen 7 starter Pokemon. Hisuian variants are a mixed bag, but Hisuian Decidueye looks particularly dapper with its new orange and red makeover. Experienced Trainers know looks mean very little when it comes to power, but this Hisuian Decidueye has the best of both worlds. This Tera Raid is a tough one, but with a bit of preparation, I know you can do it! Here’s how to beat Hisuian Decidueye Tera Raid in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

How to beat Hisuian Decidueye Tera Raid in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Hisuian Decidueye is a Grass/Fighting type, which gives it a ton of coverage. The Pokemon is imbued with the Grass Tera type, making its Grass attacks hit extraordinarily hard.

I wasn’t kidding when I said this was a tough Tera Raid. Here’s what Hisuian Decidueye brings to the table:

Hisuian Decidueye Moveset

Tera Type: Grass

  • Leaf Blade
  • Rock Tomb
  • Brave Bird
  • Triple Arrows
  • Feather Dance
  • Bulk Up
  • Grassy Terrain
  • Shadow Claw

If you have any funny ideas about using Annihialape, it’s hard-countered by brutal attacks like Brave Bird. Hisuian Decidueye also has the Hidden Ability ‘Scrappy,’ which allows Fighting moves to hit Ghost types.

I’ve read numerous reports of Eternatus working well in this Raid. The agreed-upon build is similar to this:

Eternatus Moveset

Tera Type: Poison
Hold Item: Shell Bell

  • Cosmic Power
  • Recovery
  • Venoshock
  • Sludge Bomb

I’ve had more luck with Skeledirge, and this Pokemon has the added benefit of being more readily available than Eternatus. This is what I recommend, although I got away with spamming a single attack for the entire fight:

Skeledirge

Skele 1

Tera Type: Fire
Hold Item: Shell Bell
Ability: Unaware
Nature: Modest (SP. ATK+/ATK-)

  • Torch Song
  • Sunny Day
  • Will-O-Wisp
  • Slack Off

The Unaware ability is useful as it makes Skeledirge ignore its opponent’s stat changes while attacking. Shell Bell is essential as it grants a lifesteal effect. These abilities are part of a very general Raid build, but the move you want to focus on is Torch Song. Torch Song is a fantastic attack that increases Skeledirge’s SP ATK stat each time you use it. Unfortunately, Torch Song has a lousy 10PP by default, so you’ll want to increase that with PP-ups.

For strategy, I used Torch Song whenever possible and cheered whenever my health was dangerously low. Opening with Will-O-Wisp helps, too, as it inflicts a burn. It certainly helped that my team brought decent Pokemon, but you’ll be a valuable asset to your squad with Skeledirge.

Can I solo the Hisuian Decidueye Tera Raid?

If you’re lucky, you can clear the Raid solo, but it’s an uphill struggle. At the time of writing, I’ve almost beaten the event with the Skelidirge build above, but I just ran out of time. I’m confident it can be done, but this is also a Raid where you don’t need the perfect team composition to win. As long as your team is somewhat competent, this Tera Raid is one where you can win suboptimal picks.
