How to beat a Drake in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Like a Dragon, but somehow worse.

Drakes are some of the toughest enemies to slay in this fantasy RPG, so make sure to prepare yourself before attacking one. We’ll explain how you can beat a Drake in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Dragon’s Dogma 2: How to defeat a Drake

Drakes are similar to the main Dragon you fight, but they’re somehow just as difficult, maybe even more, to tackle. So what should you know about fighting this large winged beast? You can beat the Drake monster in Dragon’s Dogma 2 by damaging its chest weak spot.

The best way to inflict damage upon a Drake is to aim for its chest, which is its weak point. It’ll often fly into the air or look up to expose its glowing chest, which is where you should be aiming your attacks. As a ranged fighter like an Archer, Mage, or Sorcerer who can aim for particular body parts, this is easy. But melee fighters will have to find openings to inflict attacks against this weak spot.

What is the Drake’s weakness?

If you want to find the enemy’s weakness, the Drake is weak to ice damage. They’re immune to fire damage, so ice is the best way to go. Use spells like Frigor or Hagol against its weak spot, and if you have a Mage in your party, have them imbue your weapons with an ice enchantment.

The Drake has many devastating attacks. One will have it spew lava out of its mouth into a horizontal arc, so once you see it about to vomit, run away from its trajectory.

It’ll also rain down strikes of lightning, and as soon as you see it charging up purple magic, start running. You’ll notice the strike points showing a purple radius before they hit you, so you have time to run out of the way.

What level should you be to fight a Drake?

I found that fighting the Drake at around level 30 was tough in itself. I recommend you at least be around level 35, and all your equipment is upgraded to nearly max level. Also, make sure you’ve bought new weapons and armor from the region of Battahl. Anything from Vermund is probably not the right level for a Drake.

You should also make sure to have a balanced party for this foe. I went in with me as a Sorcerer, my main Pawn as a Warrior, then a Thief and a Mage. The Mage can provide party buffs and healing, while I could inflict ice damage on the Drake with ice spells. My Warrior Pawn was also fit for dealing significant damage to the dragon’s weak spot, and the Thief is good for climbing on top of the Drake and getting close to that spot.

If you keep going at the Drake with targeted attacks and ice damage, you should be able to kill it eventually. It has a ton of health, so make sure to not rush things and take your time. After defeating the Drake you’ll earn Wyrmslife Crystals (they also periodically drop as you damage the Drake) and Dragon Scales. Wyrmslife Crystals are valuable items to trade with The Dragonforged for special items, and you can enhance equipment with them.

Drakes aren’t the only tough enemy you can fight in Dragon’s Dogma 2. You may also be struggling to defeat Golems who also have weaknesses to exploit.
