In Nightingale, if you want to get serious about offensive or exploration abilities, then you’ll want to utilize the many Infusions found in the game. But many will encounter them before they can actually use them.
How to use Infusions in Nightingale
Infusions are magical enchantments that enhance a piece of clothing, tool, or weaponry. There are many types of Infusions and different tiers of quality. When applying an Infusion, the quality (rarity) of the item must suit the quality of the Infusion. This is why you can’t use the Infusions you may have collected from chests, as you haven’t got anything strong enough to handle them yet.
In other words, if the Infusion has a green background, that means it is rare. This Infusion can only be applied to rare items and weapons. But you won’t just find those around — you’ll need to upgrade existing gear to these new standards. The Upgrade Bench will help you with this. Keep continuing the story until you get awarded with it — no spoilers here (although it is granted early in the game).
If you have a piece of kit that matches the rarity of one or more of your Infusions, then you can apply it. In your inventory, right-click on the Infusion you wish to apply. Then, you can choose the candidate that will benefit from it.
Each item can be upgraded to benefit from three Infusions, at different rarities. Only one of each rarity can be equipped, however, and Infusions cannot be revoked from an item. Choose carefully.

How to get Infusions in Nightingale
If you want more Infusions in Nightingale, then you’ll need to fetch them first. There are two ways to get Infusions: through finding them, or by crafting them.
Infusions can be found in Magical Chests around Encounters or important structures in the Realms. Whenever you’re somewhere even mildly interesting, I’d recommend searching around for chests. Sites of Power are also prone to housing a lot of Infusions in tucked-away chests.
You can also use the Enchanter’s Focus to make your own Infusions. You’ll need to purchase the crafting recipes from Traders or find them as rewards for Encounters, but once you’ve got them, you can use your Essence to craft them. The higher quality of Essence you use to make the Infusions, the better quality they will be for you.
