Like a Dragon: Ishin – Access and clear the final substory

As mentioned, the final substory in Like a Dragon: Ishin is ‘A Lasting Thirst for Peace.’ It involves recurring side character Satow, who also features prominently in two previous substories. ‘The Captain and the Curious’ introduces the character, near the start of your adventure. ‘Diplomacy in Darkness’ rewards you for bringing him most of the memoirs you find scattered around the streets of Kyo.

To access and clear the final substory in Like a Dragon: Ishin, you must bring Satow virtually all available memoirs. This ongoing task will require you to check the glowing points on the ground, which most typically indicate Prize Tickets. Once you meet with Satow for the first time, some of those points start giving up memoirs. However, they don’t do so very often. Only a few new memoirs seem to become available for each chapter of the main campaign that you clear.

Memoirs appear randomly. They also seem to come in an order that allows Satow to consider the linear nature of recent events. Whenever you find a few new memoirs, try to visit Satow at the table where he holds court with the local townsfolk. The table is located a short distance north of the Umai Udon shop in Fushimi Ichibangai, along the street’s west side. Make sure to discuss all the memoirs you have recovered.

Once you have gone over all the available memoirs with Satow, don’t worry about him again until you finish the game. The new substory becomes available only after you view the campaign’s closing credits and start exploring post-game content. You will find Satow standing on the bridge near his usual table. He announces he is leaving soon, but first he would like you to join him for a special excursion.

When you head to the ryotei in Gyon, as requested, a verbal confrontation follows. In the resulting brawl, you must defeat a guard named Nakamura. He is a skilled swordsman, capable of dealing powerful overhand blows and thrusts. The best strategy is to get in a few hits and then dodge around him to better avoid his lethal blade. If you get greedy and try to inflict too much damage at once, you’ll likely pay the price.

Once you defeat the swordsman, more exposition follows. Then the substory concludes.
