Season 1 has begun in Skull and Bones, named Raging Tides. Alongside new content for the game, the Smuggler Pass has been activated, which brings challenges and rewards for those who complete it. Let’s go over how to start it, how it works, and what you’ll get from it.
How to use the Smuggler Token and activate the Smuggler Pass in Skull and Bones
With Season 1 in Skull and Bones, the Smuggler Pass has been released. The regular Smuggler Pass is activated for every player by default and offers cosmetic rewards with every other tier they unlock on the three different paths that the pass is split into.
Only players who have completed the Heist on High Seas quest can access the Smuggler Pass at all. This is one of the early quest missions, so this shouldn’t be a problem for most players.
However, many players have a Smuggler Token. This will activate the premium Smuggler Pass, which includes additional rewards. Players can only activate this in the Store.
In the Store, an additional Smuggler Pass menu is available. In it, the players can use their Smuggler Token to unlock the Premium Smuggler Pass and receive some new rewards instantly, or they can spend an additional 1,500 Gold to purchase the Premium Pass Bundle, which includes 15 Smuggler Marks to advance 15 Tiers at the beginning of the event.
Additional rewards for the Premium Pass:
- Nightfall’s Herald Sail Color
- Children of Dagon Crew Skin
Additional rewards for the Premium Pass Bundle:
- Nightfall’s Herald Sail Color
- Children of Dagon Crew Skin
- 15 Smuggler Marks
How to get Smuggler Tokens
Only players who bought or were gifted the Premium Edition of Skull and Bones were awarded a Smuggler Token. So every player with the Premium Edition gets free access to the Premium Pass, although not the Premium Bundle, as that requires an extra 1,500 Gold.
It is currently unclear if this will be a repeat award for every future Season, or if they must be purchased in the future. It may have simply been a one-time reward for all Premium Edition players to access one Premium Pass for “free.”
This will likely be a persistent bonus, however.
How the Smuggler Pass works in Skull and Bones
To properly start the Smuggler Pass in Skull and Bones, speak to the new NPC in Sainte-Anne (he may be present at other Pirate Dens, this is yet to be confirmed, although I’d be surprised if he wasn’t). Upon talking to him, submit the quest that merely says to talk to him, and you’ll be in.
You can view the Smuggler Pass by speaking to Blackwood, or you can view it from the menu where you access the map, your cargo, etc.
You will have 90 days before the next season, which will come with a new Smuggler Pass, where everything will be reset.
The Pathways
In the Rewards section of the Smuggler Pass, you’ll be able to advance through three pathways, the Quartermaster, the Gunner Master, and the Shipmaster. These routes offer different rewards in their 30 Tiers, but all need to be progressed down to complete the Smuggler Pass. You can pick and choose which you divulge at any time.
To progress one tier in a chosen pathway, you need to spend one Smuggler Mark. So, in total, you’ll need 90 Smuggler Marks to complete the pass.
Smuggler Marks and Points
To obtain a Smuggler Mark, you need to acquire 1,000 Smuggler Points.
Smuggler Points are obtained by gaining Infamy or, primarily, by completing the many Challenges that the pass will be throwing your way. Every 1,000 = a Smuggler Mark, so you’ll need to gain 90,000 Smuggler Points to complete the event.
The Challenges
The meat of the Smuggler Pass is the Challenges that you must complete to advance through the Tiers. There is a set of Weekly Challenges that are easier to complete and refresh weekly for lesser Smuggler Points, and Wave Challenges.
Wave Challenges are much more ambitious challenges that reward you with 1,000 points, or 2,000. They will refresh every 30 days, so there will be three waves of challenges for you to get through. Completing these will be key, as fully completing Wave One will net you with 24,000 Points, including the bonus 5,000 you get for completing all 12 challenges.
Challenges will range from gaining Silver to completing contracts to cooking food to crafting items. You’ll have to throw yourself at all of the game’s content to get through them.
Bane of La Peste
La Peste is the big boss of Raging Tides, and has invaded the seas. This boss is incredibly difficult to take down, although, with items gained from the three pathways, the fight will become easier.
Each pathway will have one reward that makes the fight easier, and these are available for all Smuggler Passes.
The Quartermaster, at Tier 20, will reward you with La Potence Schematics that reveal the weak points of the ship.
The Gunner Master will generally award you with powerful weapons that can help take down La Potence. At Tier 30, it will award you with the Carronade, an Epic Culvern.
The Shipmaster, at Tier 20, will reward you with the Wailing Ward that resists the toxic weapons of La Potence, its signature weapon.
Note that it can be defeated without these additions.
