How old is Zelda in Tears of the Kingdom (TotK)?

Never ask a princess her age.

The timing between Breath of the Wild and its sequel Tears of the Kingdom can be a little confusing. Time has definitely passed between the two games, but how much time exactly is the question. Also, many fans are wondering how old some of the main characters are. For one, there is speculation on how old Zelda is in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. We’ll try to uncover the answer to that question below.

What is Zelda’s age in Tears of the Kingdom?

To figure this out, let us look back at Breath of the Wild for evidence. We know for certain that at the start of the memories from the Calamity, Zelda was 16 years old. This is because we find out it’s her 17th birthday in one of the memories. Not too long after her birthday comes the Calamity, where she’s sealed away for 100 years. So technically, you could say at the end of Breath of the Wild, Zelda returns at the age of 117.

Similar to Link, Zelda is from this time period, but for this instance, we’ll say that she’s 17. But then how old would Zelda be in Tears of the Kingdom? Well, one of our fellow writers tried to figure out the time gap between Tears of the Kingdom and its predecessor. Due to analyzing the NPCs from the past game to the latest one, there have definitely been a couple years between the two games. For instance, some of the toddler NPCs from Breath of the Wild are now older children in Tears of the Kingdom.

Although Zelda and Link don’t look like they’ve aged much, we figured that there was a three to five-year time gap between the two games. Therefore, I would guess that Zelda is around 20-22 years old at the beginning of Tears of the Kingdom. Technically 120-122, but you get the point.
