In Pikmin 4, players have to make their way to various self-contained areas and use the titular Pikmin to rescue stranded castaways and hunt for treasure. Pikmin 4’s areas all span a decent size, and the content contained within them results in an average playtime of a little less than 15 hours. This inevitably brings up the question of exactly how many areas you can explore as you experience Pikmin 4’s rebooted storyline. Note that this only pertains to the large overworld areas rather than the numerous underground caves placed around these environments.
The number of overworld levels in Pikmin 4
In total, Pikmin 4 has you exploring six areas, a modest amount on the surface, but actually fairly substantial in comparison to other Pikmin entries. Pikmin 4 boasts the most amount of explorable overworld areas out of the main series installments, surpassing Pikmin 1’s five areas, Pikmin 2’s four areas, and Pikmin 3’s five areas. Here is a list of every area you visit in order, not counting the Rescue Command Post hub area.
- Sun-Speckled Terrace
- Blossoming Arcadia
- Serene Shores
- Hero’s Hideaway
- Giant’s Hearth
- Primordial Thicket
Slight spoilers from here
At first, Pikmin 4 leads you to believe that Hero’s Hideaway serves as the final overworld level. You complete your main objective of rescuing Captain Olimar in this area, and the game even displays an end credits sequence and a game-wide results screen once you do so. Immediately afterward, though, the game gives you a new main story objective to complete, at which point you can travel to the Giant’s Hearth. And by saving one of the castaways there, you will gain access to the Primordial Thicket.
Combine these areas with the myriad caves and Dandori Challenges, and you have quite a lot of game to go through in Pikmin 4. And that’s not even counting some of the other extracurricular activities you can engage in, such as the night expeditions.
