House of Ashes – Pictures and premonitions with dark frames

Let’s talk about pictures and premonitions with darker frames in The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes. These are gory death scenes that can happen if you’re not careful.

Premonition: Arisen

• Chapter and location: Cursed (prologue) – This is likely to be the first picture that you’ll find in House of Ashes. As Balathu, you’ll see this on the ground next to the helmet that you just examined.
• What it shows: An unknown entity rises from the depths.
• When it happens: The Horror – I’ll hold off on spoiling what happens here.

Premonition: Squeeze

• Chapter and location: Underworld – There’s a small room near the giant statue of a hand. Do not go through the main door before grabbing this, or you won’t be able to return here.
• What it shows: A minor character, Merwin, gets dragged by a creature through a small tunnel. His bones are completely crushed.
• When it happens: The Temple – Perspectives switch from Rachel and Eric to Nick and Jason (with Merwin being carried to safety). There are cases when he could get killed by the creature.

Premonition: Fallen

• Chapter and location: Pazuzu – As Eric, follow Rachel through the tunnels. When you see a fork, head down to the tunnel on the right-hand side until you find this stone tablet.
• What it shows: Rachel falls down a chasm with Eric in tow. Eric gets impaled on a stalagmite.
• When it happens: Breaking Up – Eric needs to cut the rope here. If you don’t do that, he’ll also fall down below. Alternatively, the Iraqi soldier (Dar) could get alerted if you fail an earlier QTE. If Eric refuses to cut the rope, Dar will shoot him and he’ll also fall.

Premonition: Tripwire

• Chapter and location: The Truce/Bloodbath – This is the same burial chamber where you can pick up the stake (mentioned in the Staked premonition). In this chamber, you’ll find this stone tablet, Randolph’s Journal #4, a bloodless corpse, and Mary’s staked corpse.
• What it shows: Rachel attempts to pass through a corridor, but explosions end up killing her.
• When it happens: The Truce/Bloodbath and The Assault – After you pick up the Tripwire picture, you’ll reach that same corridor. Jason and Nick will plant explosives either along the center or on the sides. During The Assault, you need to choose the area that doesn’t have explosives so your group can run through that section.

Premonition: Thirst

• Chapter and location: The Signal – You’ll see this stone tablet right beside Nick once you gain control of him at the start of The Signal chapter. It’s on a stack of crates.
• What it shows: An entity chokes Nick and snaps his neck.
• When it happens: The Vault – Nick has the option to bomb the entire lair. But, something will block his path. If you fail the QTEs here, he’ll die.

Premonition: Mauled

• Chapter and location: Brothers – The elevator drops down and you’ll have control of Jason. You’ll find this stone tablet to your left when facing the elevator. It’s a bit hard to see due to the shadows.
• What it shows: A creature grabs Salim and crushes his head.
• When it happens: Semper Fi – Salim will get separated from the group while everyone’s trying to escape the underground chamber. Jason has an opportunity to go back and save his new pal. Failure in the QTEs here leads to Salim’s death.
