Honkai Star Rail is HoYoverse’s next big project: a free-to-play RPG with sci-fi themes. Given that the studio also made Genshin Impact, you’ll notice a lot of similarities, especially when it comes to gacha mechanics. Here’s our guide to help explain how the pity system works for Warps or Wishes in Honkai Star Rail.
Note: We’ll have a Honkai Star Rail guides and features hub once the game has officially released, so stay tuned.
How the pity system works for Warps or Wishes in Honkai Star Rail
Honkai Star Rail Warps are what you’d normally called Wishes in Genshin Impact. As such, these terms are interchangeable. If you’re a Genshin veteran, you’ll even notice the same banner concept. Basically, each banner has its own pool of rewards, be it a character or weapon (i.e., Light Cones). The currencies (i.e., Star Rail Pass and Star Rail Special Pass) are used to make your “gacha pulls,” and the results are completely random based on fairly low percentages. The pity system, meanwhile, refers to the possibility of obtaining a high-end reward the closer you reach a threshold or number of pulls.
Before we discuss the Honkai Star Rail Warps, banners, and pity system, remember that there’s another method for you to gain characters or weapons. This is by using the Starlight Exchange shop menu. The currency, Undying Starlight, comes from duplicate pulls. So, if you’ve earned quite a few of these already, you’ll be able to grab 4-star characters, and even some 5-star Light Cones. The game also has various currencies used to buy/exchange for certain rewards.
Departure Warp
- Currency and limit: Uses Star Rail Pass; limited to 50 total pulls.
- Description: Think of this as the beginner’s banner. There’s a discount where you’ll only need eight tickets to do a 10-pull.
- Pity: At least one 5-star character is guaranteed within 50 pulls. As an aside, you could see in the image below that I got very lucky during the closed beta, as I ended up with two 5-star Claras on my second 10-pull. I’ve got 30 left, so wish me luck.
Stellar Warp
- Currency and limit: Uses Star Rail Pass; permanent.
- Description: This is where most of the general 5-star and 4-star characters and Light Cones are found.
- Pity: Every 90 pulls will guarantee a 5-star character or Light Cone.
Character Event Warp
- Currency and limit: Uses Star Rail Special Pass; limited-time only (around two weeks).
- Description: This is where new characters are introduced. Banner reruns may also occur periodically.
- Pity: Every 90 pulls will guarantee a 5-star character.
- Percentage: Should you be lucky enough to pull a 5-star, there’s a 50/50 chance of obtaining the promotional character on the banner or someone else. If you do not get the promotional character, then they’re guaranteed the next time you pull a 5-star.
Light Cone/Weapon Event Warp
- Currency and limit: Uses Star Rail Special Pass; limited-time only (around two weeks).
- Description: This is where new weapons are introduced. Banner reruns may also occur periodically.
- Pity: Every 80 pulls will guarantee a 5-star Light Cone.
- Percentage: Should you be lucky enough to pull a 5-star, there’s a 75/25 chance of obtaining the promotional weapon on the banner or something else. If you do not get the promotional weapon, then it’s guaranteed the next time you pull a 5-star.
