Another new Memory of Chaos phase is now live in Honkai Star Rail, and A Song’s True Theme changes things up from the recent challenges that Trailblazers have faced in the Forgotten Hall.
This MOC phase focuses heavily on Break Effect, giving a chance for new 5-stars like Boothill and Harmony Trailblazer to shine. While you can still clear every stage with the usual suspects, this Memory of Chaos phase requires some very specific team compositions if you want to earn all 36 stars.
Honkai Star Rail A Song’s True Theme Guide
As per usual, this Memory of Chaos phase will be live for 42 days in Honkai Star Rail. A Song’s True Dream will be live from Monday, June 10, 2024 and last until Monday, July 22, 2024. We’ll be in the middle of Honkai Star Rail version 2.3 at that time, so you can wait to pull for new units like Firefly and Jade if you want to use them for this MOC phase.
Here’s the Memory Turbulence effect for A Song’s True theme.
Memory Turbulence: At the start of every wave of Cycle, summon 1 Trotter onto the field. The Trotter will be immediately defeated when it is Weakness Broken. After the Trotter is defeated, Advance the attacker’s Action Forward by 100%, then apply Memory Imprint to all allies. Every stack of Memory Imprint increases the target’s ATK by 15% and Break Effect by 30%, up to a max of 5 stack(s).
Stage 1
The first stage of A Song’s True Theme is quite easy since the enemies are only level 68, but newcomers to Memory of Chaos can still struggle with it. Use these team compositions to make quick work of stage one.
- Team 1
- Harmony Trailblazer
- Sushang
- Luka
- Lynx
- Team 2
- Herta
- Dan Heng
- March 7th
- Pela
These F2P lineups will get you through this stage. You can swap in any 5-star characters on your roster to clear faster, however. We recommend Robin and Boothill for the first team if you have them, and Blade, Jingliu, Black Swan, and Gepard are excellent choices for the second half. Just focus on the Trotter whenever it appears and you should be fine with the Memory Turbulence buff carrying you.
Stage 2
The second stage is more of the same, only with level 70 enemies. Use these team compositions to clear stage two of A Song’s True Theme with ease.
- Team 1
- Natasha
- Sushang
- Hanya
- Xueyi
- Team 2
- Tingyun
- Harmony Trailblazer
- Serval
- Lynx
These F2P teams are great for this stage, but as always, 5-star replacements will make getting all three stars much easier. This entire MOC phase feels like Boothill propaganda, so he’s a perfect fit for the first half if you have him. Seele, Silver Wolf, Robin, and especially Clara are great fits for the first half as well. For the second half, you can swap in Dan Heng Imbibitor Lunae, Luocha, Acheron, or Kafka.
Stage 3
The third stage of A Song’s True Theme features some truly annoying enemies (and the first real boss battle of this phase), so you’ll need to be prepared. Thankfully, the elemental weaknesses of each enemy lineup make teambuilding pretty easy. Use these team compositions to clear this stage.
- Team 1
- Guinaifen
- Natasha
- Tingyun
- Hook
- Team 2
- Harmony Trailblazer
- Dan Heng
- Serval
- Gallagher
The first half is relatively straightforward, but we recommend swapping in a shielder like March 7th, Gepard, or Aventurine if you have them so you can reflect damage back at the big monkey. If you have Boothill or Clara, definitely use them for the first half. Yanqing is the real problem of this stage, so the best units are saved for his half. We recommend swapping in Imbibitor Lunae, Kafka, Acheron, or Black Swan if you have them for the second half.
Stage 4
The fourth stage is fairly easy as long as you bring the right units, and the recommended elements make building good teams pretty straightforward. Use these lineups to clear stage four of A Song’s True Theme.
- Team 1
- March 7th
- Herta
- Pela
- Dan Heng
- Team 2
- Gallagher
- Guinaifen
- Natasha
- Sushang
Ice is the name of the game for the first half, so Herta and Pela come in clutch and make it very easy to defeat any Trotters. If you’ve got Gepard, Black Swan, or Jingliu, use them instead. For the second half, Fire units finally get a chance to shine. Swap in Himeko, Topaz, Clara, Robin, or Boothill if you have them.
Stage 5
Stage five ramps things up significantly with two particularly annoying encounters. The first team is up against a Senior Team Staff Leader, while the second team faces off against Stellaron Hunter Same. Here are the best team compositions for this stage.
- Team 1
- Guinaifen
- Hook
- March 7th
- Pela
- Team 2
- Harmony Trailblazer
- Serval
- Tingyun
- Lynx
To succeed in the first half, focus on weakness breaking any enemies with performance points to steal them. Hook and Guinaifen should make that pretty easy, but you can also swap in Jingliu, Gepard, or Himeko if you have them. In the fight against Sam, you’ll want to spend as many skill points as possible to reduce the damage of the main attack. Acheron, Imbibitor Lunae, Jingliu, Aventurine, and Kafka are great additions to the team if you have them.
Stage 6
The sixth stage is the first real challenge of A Song’s True Theme since the enemies are all level 80, so you don’t have a potential level advantage on your side anymore. If you clear this stage, you’ll be able to auto-clear the first six stages of every MOC phase going forward. Use these team compositions to help you clear stage six.
- Team 1
- Harmony Trailblazer
- Sushang
- Natasha
- Tingyun
- Team 2
- Herta
- Pela
- Dan Heng
- March 7th
These F2P units are putting in a lot of work for this MOC phase, and for good reason. If you have Robin, Boothill, Aventurine, Imbibitor Lunae, or Clara, though, you should use them instead for the first half. The same goes for Gepard, Blade, Black Swan, and Jingliu for the second half.
Stage 7
If you’re a veteran Honkai Star Rail player, then this is where your MOC journey starts. The event stage is surprisingly easy with the right units, so try these team compositions to clear with ease.
- Team 1
- Fu Xuan
- Clara
- Xueyi
- Natasha
- Team 2
- Acheron
- Harmony Trailblazer
- Lynx
- Tingyun
Clara is a menace for this Memory of Chaos phase, so she’ll carry you through the first half. You can swap in Robin or Boothill if you need 5-star Physical replacements, however, and Silver Wolf and Seele are great Quantum replacements if you have them.
For the second half, Acheron can take care of most of the work if you have her. If you need an Electric replacement, then Kafka and Serval are a great duo. Aventurine is a great Imaginary sustain if you have him, too, and Dan Heng Imbibitor Lunae and Dr. Ratio are perfect Imaginary DPS characters if you have them.
Stage 8
The eighth stage is a repeat of stage three, just at a higher level. As such, the same team compositions will work here. Try these lineups if you’re having trouble.
- Team 1
- Guinaifen
- Natasha
- Tingyun
- Hook
- Team 2
- Harmony Trailblazer
- Dan Heng
- Serval
- Gallagher
Of course, this stage will be much easier if you swap in some 5-star units instead of going with a fully F2P team. Robin or Ruan Mei will make the first half much easier, and Boothill is a great DPS fit if you have him. Also, Clara will absolutely dominate the first half if you have her.
For the second half, we highly recommend using Blade, Black Swan, and Acheron if you have them. Their high damage output and AOE capabilities will make the battle against Yanqing significantly easier. Kafka and Serval also work as a duo here, and Jing Yuan is a great choice as well.
Stage 9
The ninth stage of A Song’s True Theme is a bit easier than the previous stage as long as you have the right units to match the elemental weaknesses of each half. We recommend these team compositions to clear stage nine.
- Team 1
- Black Swan
- Sampo
- Pela
- Huohuo
- Team 2
- Boothill
- Ruan Mei
- Asta
- Gallagher
The first half can easily be cleared with a Black Swan-centric team that goes heavy on DoT effects. Pela and Huohuo are great supports for this half, too. You can swap in Jingliu or Blade for other DPS carries if you have them. Boothill is the best bet for the second half if you have him, and Ruan Mei, Asta, and Gallagher will ensure that he can do the most damage. If you don’t have Boothill, you can swap in Himeko or Topaz for a Fire DPS. Robin is a great alternative for Ruan Mei as well, and Clara works as a main DPS here too.
Stage 10
The tenth stage is a repeat of stage five, only with level 90 enemies this time. The Senior Staff Team Leader and Stellaron Hunter Sam can both deal some serious damage to your team, so a solid sustain unit is key. Use these team compositions to make quick work of both battles in stage 10.
- Team 1
- Jingliu
- Ruan Mei
- Sparkle
- Gepard
- Team 2
- Acheron
- Kafka
- Silver Wolf
- Aventurine
With Tingyun and Sparkle buffing, Jingliu will be able to dominate the battlefield in the first half. Pela is a solid F2P replacement for Sparkle or Ruan Mei, and you can just use March 7th instead of Gepard if you don’t have him. Instead of Jingliu, you can bring a Fire DPS like Himeko or Topaz, too.
For the second team, Acheron will do most of the work. If you have her E2, you can remove either Kafka or Silver Wolf since she won’t need two Nihility units to get the maximum possible damage buff. A solid F2P lineup for this half is Serval, Lynx, Harmony Trailblazer, and Tingyun.
Stage 11
Stage 11 features back-to-back boss battles against Svarog and Gepard, so this is one of the toughest stages in the entire phase. Thankfully, their elemental weaknesses line up perfectly to allow for some great team compositions. Try these lineups if you’re struggling to clear stage 11 of A Song’s True Theme.
- Team 1
- Black Swan
- Acheron
- Asta
- Huohuo
- Team 2
- Aventurine
- Clara
- Fu Xuan
- Sparkle
Acheron and Black Swan are an iconic duo for a reason, and they can easily handle Svarog on their own. With Asta buffing the team and wearing down the Trotters’ weaknesses and Huohuo healing, the lineup for the first half is unstoppable. If you need replacements, then we recommend going with Blade, Himeko, or Topaz for your 5-star DPS. Suitable 4-stars include Gallagher as a healer and Sampo, Guinaifen, or Hook for DPS units.
The second half pits you against Gepard, and Clara comes in clutch yet again as an insanely strong DPS unit for this MOC phase. With her and Aventurine launching frequent follow-up attacks, you’ll end up automatically defeating Trotters as they appear without even trying. Sparkle and Fu Xuan just make things even easier. Dan Heng Imbibitor Lunae or Welt are good Imaginary 5-star DPS alternatives, and Robin is a great alternative to Sparkle if you don’t have her. For F2P players, Sushang and Harmony Trailblazer are perfect fits here too.
Stage 12
Stage 12 of A Song’s True Theme is the toughest of them all, pitting you against Argenti in the first half and The Past, Present, and Eternal Show from the latest story quests in the second half. To make things worse, Electric is recommended for both sides so your best units will be split up. Try these team compositions if you’re having trouble with this stage.
- Team 1
- Clara
- Ruan Mei
- Tingyun
- Bailu
- Team 2
- Acheron
- Silver Wolf
- Sparkle
- Gallagher
Clara is the best DPS carry option for the first half, especially with Ruan Mei and Tingyun buffing her. You shouldn’t have many issues with Argenti as long as you focus on Trotters when they appear and bring units with decent AOE capabilities. We recommend Kafka and Serval as an Electric duo here if you don’t have Clara, and Robin and Boothill are great Physical replacements too. F2P players will have a hard time here, but Sushang and Serval can put in a shocking amount of work in this half.
For the second half, Acheron is the best DPS carry, especially with Sparkle and Silver Wolf supporting her. If you don’t have E2 Acheron, then you can swap Sparkle out for another Nihility unit like Black Swan to get the maximum damage buff for Acheron. If you don’t have Acheron, then a Kafka-centric team works wonders here. The same goes for Himeko and Topaz, who can carry you through this half with decent buffers and buffers by their sides. For a fully F2P lineup, we recommend Guinaifen, Serval, Tingyun, and Gallagher.
