March 7th is one of the OG HSR characters most deserving of an upgrade. As of patch 2.3, we got precisely that! Let me show everything in our March 7th (Hunt) Honkai Star Rail guide, including Light Cones, Best Builds, Teams, Relics, and more.

How to get Imaginary Hunt March 7th in Honkai Star Rail
Let me start this guide with the best news of all. March 7th (Hunt) is completely free and available to everyone. March 7th’s Eidolons are F2P too, offering easy access to potent upgrades. You can get March 7th’s Hunt form by completing the March to Mastery: A Star is Born quest. The mission is part of the Trailblaze Continuance (story) quests, so the character isn’t immediately available to new players.
March 7th Hunt kit and abilities in Honkai Star Rail
March 7th’s Hunt kit is exceptional, especially for a 4-Star F2P character. Her abilities are a little tricky to understand, so let me explain how everything works:
Talent: Master, I’ve Ascended!
March 7th Gains 1 Charge after Shifu uses an attack or Ultimate. March immediately takes action upon obtaining 7 Charges and gains an 80% ATK boost. Her basic ATK is enhanced and her skill cannot be used. March 7th can hold up to 10 Charges simultaneously, and 7 are spent when the Talent activates.
This Talent description makes no sense if you don’t know what a Shifu is, so let’s cover that next.
Skill: Master, It’s Tea Time!
March 7th can choose any character on the team as her “Shifu” and get bonuses depending on who’s selected when attacking. The Shifu also enjoys a 10% SPD boost.
If your Shifu’s Path is Destruction, Erudition, or The Hunt: Deal boosted damage with a type matching the Shifu.
If your Shifu’s Path is Abundance, Harmony, Preservation, or Nihility: Increases Toughness Reduction on the next attack by 100%.
I had to read this description a few times to understand it, but you get bonuses depending on who you choose to be your Shifu. The designation lasts the entire fight and while you can swap at any time, you usually won’t need to.
Ultimate: March 7th, The Apex Heroine
March 7th’s Ultimate deals a huge amount of Imaginary DMG to a single target. The ability Increases the “Hits per action” of the next Enhanced Basic ATK by two and improves the chance of dealing additional damage.
As March 7th loves to use Basic Attacks, her Ultimate makes those more potent while smashing a target for respectable damage.
If the new iteration of March 7th has brought you back to the game, don’t forget to check out the permanent event in the Travel log like Vignettes in a Cup. These events are a great way to refresh yourself on how the game works and offer a welcome sprinkle of rewards.
Best Light Cones for Imaginary March 7th
There’s a case to be made for a Weakness Break build for March 7th (Hunt) but we’re focusing on a Crit build instead. This choice ties us into more traditional DPS gear and we get the added dopamine hits from seeing big numbers.
In the Night
In the Night is the “best in slot” Light Cone for the March 7th (Hunt) Crit build as it increases our Crit Rate. We also gain Basic ATK damage which increases based on our SPD stat. The faster the better, and we optimize this with our Relic stats. The Crit damage of the wearer’s Ultimate is also increased for a massive DPS boost.
Baptism of Pure Thought
One of March 7th’s only downsides is she can’t inflict debuffs by herself. If you squeeze a debuffer onto the team, Baptism of Pure Thought is a Stellar Light Cone.
Even without debuffs, we gain a respectable boost to our Crit Rate. If the target is debuffed, we gain increased Crit DMG scaling on how many debuffs the opponent has. Ultimate attacks grant the “Disputation effect” which increases damage and allows follow-ups to ignore a percentage of the target DEF.
Best F2P March 7th Hunt Light Cones
The most attractive F2P Light Cone is Cruising in the Stellar Sea, which you can purchase from Herta’s shop.
We gain a notable Crit Rate boost with this Light Cone, and deal increased Crit DMG to enemies below 50% HP. The wearer also gains boosted ATK for 2 turns after defeating a target.
The downside with Cruising in the Stellar Sea is we don’t get all of the benefits until the opponent reaches an HP threshold. That said, the Light Cone requires zero effort to utilize, and we don’t need a debuffer to trigger any benefits.
Best Relics for Imaginary March 7th in Honkai Star Rail
There are a couple of decent Relic sets for a March 7th Crit Build, including one I’ve not used for a while.
Musketeer of Wild Wheat set
I’m thrilled to recommend the Musketeer of Wild Wheat set, as this was the go-to in my old Seele/Bronya team. The Musketeer of Wild Wheat set offers the following::
- 2PC: Increases wearer ATK.
- 4PC: Increases wearer Speed and Basic ATK.
There’s not much to say about the bonuses. March 7th (Hunt) is a Basic attacker, and the set offers an easy route to buffing those numbers.
Pioneer Diver of Dead Waters set
You will need a debuffer to support March 7th with this set, but it offers a great list of perks.
- 2PC: Increases damage dealt to debuffed enemies
- 4PC: Increases Crit Rate. Increases Crit DMG on enemies with multiple debuffs.
As we’re investing into a Crit build, the Pioneer Diver of Dead Waters set gives us multiple DPS buffs. The debuffer requirement does limit our team options a little, but we still have plenty of attractive options.
Relic Stats
Set bonuses are great, but don’t sleep on the stats for each piece. Here’s what I recommend:
- Body – Crit Rate
- Sphere – Imaginary DMG
- Rope – Attack
- Boots – Speed
Hunt March 7th Stat Priority
Unlike Yunli, who loves Ultimate damage, we want Basic Attack damage with March 7th (Hunt). Here’s the order I recommend prioritizing your stats:
- Basic Attack
- Talent
- Ultimate
- Skill
March 7th’s Master, It’s Tea Time! Skill is great, but as you’ll usually only cast it once per battle, it’s not worth the continued investment. Talent is tied with Basic Attack for priority as it offers a massive damage buff on her 7 Charge attacks.
Best team compositions for Hunt March 7th in Honkai Star Rail
Another of March 7th’s greatest strengths is she can fit into almost any team comp as a powerful damage dealer. I’ll share three comps below but don’t feel tied to these. You’ll be fine with the standard dual DPS, buffer/debuffer, and support comp no matter who you fill those slots with.
All-out Attack comp
- March 7th (Hunt)
- Yunli
- Robin
- Huohuo
Yunli is a phenomenal DPS unit in her own right and can often attack multiple times per turn. These additional attacks synergize nicely with March 7th’s Talent, making this dynamic duo a force to be reckoned with.
Robin increases DPS and Crit DMG across the board and is a viable buffer in almost any team. Finally, Huohuo is one of the best support units in the game and keeps the comp alive.
March 7th Debuff comp
- March 7th (Hunt)
- Dr. Ratio
- Silver Wolf
- Huohuo
I recommended several build options that require a debuffer, and my choice for that role is Silver Wolf. I’ve picked Dr. Ratio for the second DPS slot as he deals Imaginary DMG like March 7th, but go with what you have. Once again, Huohuo is my go-to for support, but Aventurine and Gallagher are solid alternatives.
Best F2P Imaginary March 7th team composition
- March 7th (Hunt)
- Xueyi
- Pela
- Lynx
We maintain the same team arrangement from the premium comps and swap them with F2P alternatives. Xueyi is a decent DPS unit and deals a respectable amount of Quantum DMG.
Pela can deal damage when required and debuff enemies to increase your DPS character’s output. We round off the team with Lynx who is arguably one of the best free units we’ve ever seen in HSR. Lynx. This superb support unit can remove debuffs and kick out a ton of healing.
How to farm Hunt March 7th materials in Honkai Star Rail
Vanilla March 7th will only get you so far, so don’t forget to level up her Traces. Here’s what you’ll need to max her out, and where to find the materials:
- 2.4 million Credits
- 5 Tracks of Destiny
- 12 Destroyer’s Final Road (Echo of War: Supply Zone)
- 12 Meteoric Bullet (Calyx – Soulglad Scorchsand Audition Venue)
- 28 Thief’s Instinct (Diverted/Simulated Universe enemies)
- 42 Conqueror’s Will (Diverted/Simulated Universe enemies)
- 42 Usurper’s Scheme (Diverted/Simulated Universe enemies)
- 54 Destined Expiration (Calyx – Soulglad Scorchsand Audition Venue)
- 105 Countertemporal Shot (Calyx – Soulglad Scorchsand Audition Venue)
Don’t burn yourself out going for all of these right away, but you’ll want all of March 7th’s Traces maxed out if she’s to be a mainstay in your teams.
It’s great that Hoyoverse has dished out another powerful F2P unit. If you want to build another, I highly recommend Lynx as a superb support unit.
