Dr. Ratio is one of the strongest Imaginary characters in all of Honkai Star Rail, and everyone gets him for free! Strong Imaginary characters are hard to come by, so you’ll want to build Dr. Ratio correctly to maximize his DPS output with the right Light Cone and Relics.
Currently, the only Imaginary character in Honkai Star Rail that isn’t a 5-Star is Yukong, so most players will appreciate having Dr. Ratio on their roster. He specializes in single-target damage since he’s a Hunt character, but he can carry you through most situations with the right build and team composition.

Best Light Cones for Dr. Ratio in Honkai Star Rail
As per usual, the absolute best Light Cone for Dr. Ratio is his signature “Baptism of Pure Thought.” If you’re lucky enough to pull this Light Cone from the featured banner, you’ll be able to increase Dr. Ratio’s CRIT DMG by 20-32% with a further 6-10% increase for every debuff the enemy currently has (maximum of three stacks). This also adds the Disputation buff to Dr. Ratio’s Ultimate, increasing his DMG dealt by 36-60% and causing his follow-up attacks to ignore 20-30% of the target’s DEF for two turns.
There are plenty of 4-Star Light Cones that pair beautifully with Dr. Ratio, too, so there’s no need to worry if you don’t have his signature one. “Only Silence Remains” is a solid choice, increasing Dr. Ratio’s ATK by 16-32% and boosting his CRIT Rate by 12-24% if there are two or fewer enemies on the field. There’s also “Return to Darkness,” which boosts his CRIT Rate by 12-24% and gives him a 12-24% chance to dispel an enemy’s buff after a CRIT Hit.
Instead of using a 4-Star Light Cone with Dr. Ratio, however, it’s best to save up for the 5-Star “Cruising in the Stellar Sea” at Herta’s Store. It’s worth grinding Simulated Universe for this one since it boosts Dr. Ratio’s CRIT Rate by 8-16% and increases CRIT Rate even further by 8-16% if the target has less than half of their HP remaining. On top of that, defeating an enemy will increase Dr. Ratio’s ATK by 20-40% for three turns. This is a remarkably powerful Light Cone and everyone can claim it for free since it’s a Simulated Universe reward.
Best Relics for Dr. Ratio in Honkai Star Rail
Since Dr. Ratio is an Imaginary DPS character on the Hunt path, his optimal Relics are pretty straightforward. The easiest Relic setup to use with Dr. Ratio is a full four-piece set of Wastelander of Banditry Desert, which increases his Imaginary DMG by 10% and gives him an even higher CRIT Rate against debuffed enemies with an additional CRIT DMG buff against Imprisoned foes. It’s the usual setup for Imaginary characters, and it works well here.
However, since Dr. Ratio’s main source of damage is his follow-up attack, you can mix two pieces of Wastelander of Banditry Desert with two pieces of The Ashblazing Grand Duke. This still gets you the 10% Imaginary DMG buff but also a 20% increase to follow-up attack DMG, which is a perfect blend for Dr. Ratio.
For Planar Ornaments, two sets work well with Dr. Ratio. The first is Firmament Frontline: Glamoth, which increases his ATK by 12% with an even further boost if his SPD reaches 135/160. The other option is Inert Salsotto, which buffs Dr. Ratio’s CRIT Rate by 8% and increases his Ultimate and follow-up attack DMG by 15% on top of that if his CRIT Rate reaches at least 50%. Space Sealing Station and Rutilant Arena are decent picks also if you don’t have any Glamoth or Salsotto pieces with good stats.

Dr. Ratio Stat Priority
Dr. Ratio is an Imaginary Hunt character, so he does well with the same stats as characters like Dan Heng Imbibitor Lunae. Prioritize these stats when hunting for Dr. Ratio’s relics.
- Body: CRIT Rate/DMG
- Feet: Speed
- Planar Sphere: Imaginary DMG%
- Link Rope: ATK%
Basically, just dump as many stats into CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG while increasing Dr. Ratio’s ATK as much as possible. Some SPD helps, too, but making sure he can deal enough damage is the highest priority.
Best F2P Dr. Ratio Team in Honkai Star Rail
Since Dr. Ratio is a DPS character, he fits well with just about any set of supports. You can just focus on leveling up his Traces and giving him good Relics since he’ll be doing most of the work. Here’s a good F2P team to use with Dr. Ratio.
- Dr. Ratio
- Tingyun
- Asta
- March 7th
Basically, any team with Dr. Ratio needs some kind of sustain to keep him alive and a support unit that maximizes his damage output. You could use an Abundance character like Natasha instead of March 7th, for example, and you’d still get the same effect. Yukong is also another solid buffer instead of Asta. With that in mind, here’s a second F2P team for Dr. Ratio.

- Yukong
- Pela

His role in future Trailblaze missions remains to be seen, but as it stands, the Honkai Star Rail community should be very happy with Dr. Ratio.
