Gearbox’ Randy Pitchford sounds very pleased with the pre-order numbers for Homeworld Remastered.
Gearbox has been offering a 15% discount on all Homeworld Remastered pre-orders and the “campaign” to bring awareness to the game has paid off. Randy Pitchford shared some pre-sale numbers this evening and also told “big publishers” to “take note”. He posted:
“Big publishers take note: Homeworld Remastered has cracked 100k pre-sales with just a 30 day campaign and no retail strong arm tactics.”
Homeworld Remastered has received a lot of attention from the press and fans since it was announced which can be attributed to the fact that Homewold 1 and Homeworld 2 are absolute classic games that were crying out to be brought up to date. Most of the pre-sales will probably have come from die-hard fans who are older gamers with fond memories of the originals. Younger gamers still need to be convinced that the remastered versions of the game are worth a purchase and they’ll likely have held out until this evening’s reviews appeared.
100K is not shoddy considering the two games were released back in 1997 and 2001 and this is essentially the same games with a whole load of enhancements. Gearbox has done a fantastic job remastering the game and it’s probably going to see strong sales in the weeks ahead.
