Get those items boosted.

Hogwarts Legacy has numerous gear pieces that you can acquire. As you’re leveling up and progressing further in the campaign, a lot of them will no longer be of use. Here’s our guide to help you upgrade your gear and add traits in Hogwarts Legacy using a device called the Enchanted Loom.

Hogwarts Legacy guide – How to upgrade gear and add traits to items

To upgrade gear and add traits in Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll need to complete a quest called The Elf, the Nab-Sack, and the Loom. You should receive it halfway through the campaign. The tasks are fairly straightforward. You’ll capture different beasts using the Nab-Sack and bring them to your Vivarium in the Room of Requirement. After ensuring that the animals have been petted and fed so you can pick up their materials, the house elf Deek will give you the blueprint for the Enchanted Loom.

Using the Enchanted Loom

The Enchanted Loom is the device used to upgrade gear and add traits in Hogwarts Legacy. It costs only 8x Moonstones, so go ahead and plop it down. It’s got a couple of functions:

  • Upgrade Gear (right-click) – Each equippable item will either have Offense or Defense as a bonus stat roll. The first upgrade has a relatively low cost (i.e., 3x Jobberknoll Feather or 3x Mooncalf Fur). Subsequent upgrades, meanwhile, require additional materials from other animals.
  • Add Trait (F) – Assuming you already have the necessary materials, you can affix a type of trait to a gear piece. Additional traits can be unlocked when you complete challenges, such as killing X number of enemies of the same type.

From here, you’ll want to continue taming various Beast-type creatures that you find in the game world. Then, you should feed and pet them back in your Vivarium. As long as they’re satisfied, they’ll produce additional materials. These can be used to further facilitate the Hogwarts Legacy gear upgrade and traits functions via the Enchanted Loom.
