After a lengthy intro, your own customized witch or wizard will, eventually, make their way to Hogwarts. And just in time for the ceremony, where you’re also introduced to Headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black. Now, you’ve got to make a choice that students either dream of or dread. Here’s our Hogwarts Legacy Sorting Hat guide to help you choose your own House – i.e., Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, or Slytherin.

Hogwarts Legacy Sorting Hat and choosing your House guide
In this pivotal moment in Hogwarts Legacy, the Sorting Hat will be placed on your head and you’ll get to choose your House. First, you’re given a couple of responses: “I can’t wait to start classes” or “I can’t wait to explore.”
If you’ve completed the sorting quiz and linked your account, the Sorting Hat will choose that result as the default. In my case, my quiz result gave me Gryffindor. (It’s probably because of a question where I picked a cat, but that’s another story.)
However, if you did not do the quiz/did not link your account, you’re asked to select your best trait, which will determine your House:
- Daring – Gryffindor
- Curiosity – Ravenclaw
- Loyalty – Hufflepuff
- Ambition – Slytherin
Still, if you don’t like a particular House, you can always choose something else. The options — Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin — can be selected as you wish. The Sorting Hat will also remark about certain qualities that make someone ideal for a particular group.
After this, Professor Weasley will automatically cause your robes to change into your House’s colors. Then, come the next day, you’ll wake up in your dorm room and speak to your classmates. To be clear, though, the story progresses normally past this stage, so this is mostly for added immersion and being able to live your fantasy if you’re a long-time fan of the novels or movies.
Hogwarts Legacy is available via Steam.
