Hogwarts Legacy guide: How to complete Percival Rackham’s Trial
The Tower
The Hogwarts Legacy Percival Rackham’s Trial quest follows Jackdaw’s Rest and several other assignments/minor tasks. You should receive it after taking Professor Fig to the Map Chamber, whereupon he’ll tell you the location of a tower to the north. Make sure the quest is being actively tracked and make your way there. You’re informed that Goblin enemies here can be instantly killed if you sneak up on them and use Petrificus Totalus, and you should do just that. However, a group of Goblins will also appear, and they’re ready for you. Take them out with the help of Professor Fig.
After this part, run to the tower’s entrance. Professor Fig will open it for you. This is important: keep a manual save here. That’s because you may encounter a bug that prevents further progression. Basically, when you climb to the top of the tower, you should be able to talk to Professor Rackham’s portrait. If there’s no image there, it’s not that Rackham is out on vacation. Rather, it’s a bug and you’ll have no choice but to reload your save.
If you’re able to talk to Rackham, head back to the base of the tower and cast Revelio. Look for dark wisps on the ground and cast Revelio again to spawn a portal.
The Dungeon’s Platform Puzzles
The Hogwarts Legacy Percival Rackham’s Trial has a dungeon with several platform puzzles. The main mechanic here is the veil portal. No, it’s not the one that killed Sirius Black when he stupidly stood in front of it only to get blasted. These are just regular portals that change the layout of the room if you pass through repeatedly. The goal, therefore is this:
- Use Accio to pull the platforms to other grapple points.
- If you can’t grapple anywhere or the way is barred, pass through veil portals to see if the room changed.
Here’s the gist:
- First puzzle chamber – Move the platform to the ledge on the right. Go through the portal so you can open the chest. This will also make other grapple points appear so you can circle around while on the platform.
- Second puzzle chamber:
- Move the platform to the bridge/walkway. Then, go through the portal, which will cause the bridge/walkway to disappear.
- Move the platform to the far-left side so you can grab the chest. Leave it there and go through the portal again.
- Climb up the steps and Accio the ledge toward you, then head all the way to the next area.
- Third puzzle chamber:
- Stand on the ledge and grapple to the central area. You can grapple to the lower point just behind the portal so you can grab the chest.
- From the opposite side (where the chest is), pass through the portal. This will change the room’s layout, causing a second platform to spawn in mid-air.
- Next, climb on top of the first platform that you used. The goal here is to grapple and have the initial platform move so that it’s right in front of the portal. This will let you jump to second floating platform.
- While on the second platform, use Accio to grapple across the chasm.
All right, you’re almost done with the Hogwarts Legacy Percival Rackham’s Trial quest. All that’s left is to defeat the Pensieve Guardian boss.
Hogwarts Legacy is available via Steam.
