Hogwarts Legacy: How to beat the Pensieve Guardian – Boss guide

The dork knight rises.

The Pensieve Guardian is a boss in Hogwarts Legacy. You’ll first encounter this hulking suit of armor at the end of the Percival Rackham’s Trial quest after going through multiple veil portal puzzles. This boss has easily telegraphed attacks, though you’d be in for a world of hurt if you’re not careful. Here’s our Hogwarts Legacy guide to help you defeat the Pensieve Guardian, as well as complete the challenge to destroy the orb.

Hogwarts Legacy guide: How to beat the Pensieve Guardian and destroy the orb

The Hogwarts Legacy Pensieve Guardian encounter is preceded by a quick fight against weaker Pensieve mobs. If you’re already low on health potions, try not to waste them here. Time your dodges and blocks carefully so you’re better prepared for the upcoming battle.

In any case, the Hogwarts Legacy Pensive Guardian boss has several abilities, including a challenge where you need to destroy the orb. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Shockwave Stomp – When you see a red flash, it’ll stomp on the ground, creating a shockwave that travels in a straight line. This is unblockable so you need to dodge it.
  • Obliteration Orb – In between a couple of Shockwave Stomps, your foe will create a glowing orb. To destroy it, pay attention to its color. That’s because it’s similar to enemy shields: hit it with a spell that matches the color and it will break. At the start of the fight, it’ll likely cast yellow orbs, which means you can use something like Glacius. Later, though, it will also create purple orbs, which means countering with magic like Depulso.
  • Seeking Strike – When below 50% health, the Shockwave Stomp will also spawn a missile that homes in on your location. This can be blocked and deflected back at your foe.

Last but not least, the Pensieve Guardian’s other challenge task requires you to cast Ancient Magic. You can do this by pressing the “X” key, which will also cause the boss to get stunned. You can then wail away with combination spells like Glacius, followed by Incendio or Confringo.

That’s basically how you beat the Pensieve Guardian in Hogwarts Legacy. Crack open those orbs by using the correct magic grouping/color. Then, use your Ancient Magic ultimate to stun. For the rest of the fight, you’ll likely just spam your basic attack to recharge your Ancient Magic meter.

Once you’ve finished this encounter, you’ll reach the mid-game point of the campaign. Additional main quests will be unlocked, such as the Helm of Urtkot and The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament (which will reward you with Alohomora). It will also lead to a few sidequests that allow you to capture Beasts like Unicorns and Hippogriffs, as well as a method to upgrade your gear pieces.
