Hogwarts Legacy: How to unlock Flipendo

You turn me upside down.

Flipendo is a spell in Hogwarts Legacy. Also known as the Knockback Jinx, it uses force to suddenly turn enemies upside down, disrupting their spellcasting and breaking their purple shields. Here’s our Hogwarts Legacy guide to help you unlock the Flipendo spell.

Hogwarts Legacy guide – How to unlock Flipendo

The Flipendo spell in Hogwarts Legacy is available roughly once you reach the early-to-mid-game stage of the campaign. Around this time, you’ll learn about Herbology mechanics from Professor Garlick. Shortly thereafter, she’ll ask you to complete her Wingardium Leviosa assignment. Once you’re done with that, you should receive an Owl Mail about the next set of tasks.

To unlock the Hogwarts Legacy Flipendo spell, you’ll need to do the following:

  • Harvest Fluxweed.
  • Use all three carnivorous plants simultaneously in combat.

Related: Both of these will cost quite a lot of gold, so go ahead and read some tips from our moneymaking guide.

Harvest Fluxweed

For the Fluxweed task, take note of what we mentioned in our Fluxweed Stem/Focus Potion guide.

  • Fluxweed seeds can be purchased from The Magic Neep in the northwestern part of Hogsmeade.
  • However, planting and harvesting the item requires Large Pots. You’ll have to:
    • Buy either of the Large Potting blueprints from the Tomes and Scrolls shop in the southern part of Hogsmeade.
    • Unlock the Room of Requirement.
    • Gather enough Moonstones so you can plop down the device.

Only then will you be able to place the seeds in the pot. After 15 minutes, you’ll be able to harvest Fluxweed for the Hogwarts Legacy Flipendo assignment.

Use carnivorous plants simultaneously

Now, for the other step, you’ll need to visit the Dogweed and Deathcap shop, which is in the northeastern outskirts of Hogsmeade. These are what you need to do:

  • Purchase 1x of each: Chinese Chomping Cabbage, Venomous Tentacula, and Mandrake. Alternatively, you can get the seeds so you can grow and harvest them, though that will take a while, too.
  • Find a location in the game world where there are several enemies (i.e., around three or more). Because these three carnivorous plants need to be used at the same time, you need to make sure that enemies are still around while they’re active. As such, just hold the tab key and select each plant, then throw them one after the other.

Flipendo pattern

After you finish the above tasks, return to Professor Garlick. She’ll teach you the pattern to unlock the Hogwarts Legacy Flipendo spell (it looks like a very wavy zigzag). As cited earlier, the spell turns opponents upside down, essentially a crowd-control mechanic. It also breaks purple shields so you can hit them with your other abilities.
