Arresto Momentum is a spell in Hogwarts Legacy. Certain abilities may cause objects or characters to move toward or away from you, but this one completely forces your target to a standstill. Here’s our Hogwarts Legacy guide to help you unlock the Arresto Momentum spell.

Hogwarts Legacy guide – How to unlock Arresto Momentum
The Arresto Momentum spell in Hogwarts Legacy is available a few hours into the campaign. The goal is to do the following:
- Complete all flying-related tasks so you can buy your own flying broom.
- Finish the Map Chamber main quest. It’s where you and Professor Fig visit the hidden location for a cutscene with a lot of exposition.
- Unlock Flipendo via one of Professor Garlick’s assignments.
- Unlock Glacius via one of Madam Kogawa’s assignments.
After you’re done with the above, Madam Kogawa will contact you via Owl Mail. She’ll provide you with two more tasks to obtain the Hogwarts Legacy Arresto Momentum spell:
- Practice flying near the Spires (0/5).
- Practice flying near Keenbridge Tower (0/5).
The “0/5” tally represents five balloons that you need to pop in those areas (just like what you did during the Glacius assignment). These locations are further south of Hogsmeade as well, so go ahead and fly there. The key difference here is that you’ll see green orbs that provide a temporary speed burst. As usual, though, there’s no time limit, so fly at your own pace so you can bump into all the balloons. Once you’re done with the Spires objective, you’ll head to Keenbridge Tower to do the same actions.
With the above completed, it’s time to revisit Madam Kogawa’s office. She’ll teach you the pattern for the Hogwarts Legacy Arresto Momentum spell, which looks like the letter “M” (with tight hairpin turns). Trace it successfully and the ability is yours.
As noted earlier, it stops a character or object in its tracks. For instance, if you’re doing Merlin Trials involving a moving boulder, you can halt its movement so you can change its direction (i.e., using Depulso). Just be reminded that larger objects will only slow down temporarily instead of being halted.
Hogwarts Legacy is available via Steam.
