Firefly Studios will be releasing its HD updates of both Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader tomorrow (1 November), through GOG, DotEmu and various other digital outlets. These editions will update the castle construction titles with high definition graphics and enable resolutions up to 2560×1600.

An “HD battlefield view” is also promised, which will allow players to zoom out and play in real time with the entire map on one screen. With this birds-eye view, it should be easier to orchestrate sweeping tactical maneuvers.

Players who have an existing copy of Stronghold or Stronghold Crusader (or even both) can update their older versions to the new HD release for no additional cost. Firefly will release a patch for existing editions that will be “available initially on GameFront and GamersHell, with additional mirrors to follow”.
