Hades 2 Gifts of the Moon: How to harness each of Selene’s Hexes

Sokka's girlfriend is here to help

There’s so much to do in Hades 2, that even in early access, the game’s content eclipses that of the original’s full release. There’s already a planned roadmap out there, but let’s focus on the things currently in the game. For example, the goddess of the moon is brand-new, and she has some interesting boons for you. Let’s look to the Gifts of the Moon and figure out how to harness each of Selene’s Hexes in Hades 2.

The Hexes you can gain from Selene are some very powerful abilities that can really help you out in a pinch. Some of her boons are also especially useful in turning your enemies into harmless little creatures. Others, fire a gigantic laser at your foes decimating everything in your path.

So far, a total of eight Selene boons, otherwise known as Gifts of the Moon, have been found in the early access version of Hades 2. We’ll be sure to update this article as more are discovered but until then, here are all goddesses of the moon boons, as well as how to harness each of Selene’s Hexes:

  • Twilight Curse — Your Hex launches a seeking projectile that inflicts Morph on up to 10 susceptible foes. || Ready After: 140 Magick
  • Phase Shift — Your Hex makes everything else move 80% slower for five seconds. || Ready After: 150 Magick
  • Lunar Ray — Your Hex fires a beam that deals up to 1200 damage over three seconds. || Ready After: 120 Magick
  • Dark Side — Your Hex turns you into an impervious living nightmare with her own abilities for five seconds. || Ready After: 90 Magick
  • Wolf Howl — Your Hex makes you rise up then crash down in the target area for 200 damage. || Ready After: 80 Magick
  • Total Eclipse — Your Hex blasts the target area for 1000 damage after 4 seconds. || Ready After: 200 Magick
  • Moon Water — Your Hex restores 25 Hearts up to two times, which reset whenever you use Fountains. || Ready after: 70 Magick

Selene is a unique goddess to come across in Hades 2, primarily because her boons are unlike any other. When you take a boon from Selene, you gain what is called a Hex ability. Hex abilities act like God Calls from Hades 1, albeit with its own twist. In Hades 2, you can only use Hexes when you’ve expended a certain amount of Magick in an encounter.

What’s more, Hexes from Selene will have a Moonglow that alters the effectiveness of the boon. There are three different phases of Moonglow: Crescent, Half, and Full. You get no added bonuses with Crescent, but get a +1 and +2 upgrade from the Path of Stars if you have a Half or Full Moonglow respectively.

Finally, the Path of Stars is the upgrade tree you receive by running into Selene multiple times in a run. The second time you come across the goddess of the moon, she will offer the upgrades for your current boons, acting as a pomegranate item and goddess at the same time.

Each subsequent visit with Selene in the same run allows further upgrades to her boons as well, so I’m sure there will be some broken Hex builds out there. Things like this will certainly help your journey through Erebus early on.
