Hades 2 Family in Need: How to meet the Huntress and Messenger

Meet Artemis and Hermes to complete this prophecy.

One of the first prophecy quests that you receive in Hades 2 requires you to meet the Huntress and the Messenger, two mythological figures that can potentially show up during your runs.

To complete this mission, you need to encounter Artemis, Goddes of the Hunt, and Hermes, God of Swiftness, for the first time. These two show up randomly unlike the standard pantheon of Greek gods that deliver boons to you, so you’re stuck with luck for this quest. Completing it will net you 10 Silver, though, so it’s worth keeping an eye out for them.

Artemis will be the first of the two that you meet during your Hades 2 playthrough. You’ll most likely encounter her before you even unlock the prophecy mechanic since she’s so common in early runs through Erebus.

When you enter a new room in Hades 2, there’s a small chance that Artemis will appear and help you clear the encounter. When she shows up, the phrase “the hunt is on” will flash at the top of the screen and Artemis will begin firing green arrows at enemies that deal massive damage and make any surviving foes weaker. When you defeat the last enemy, she’ll appear and give you a boon.

Hermes is the harder of the two to find in Hades 2. He shows up much later than Artemis, and his first appearance is random as well. Hermes brings news about Olympus on the surface, so he’ll only appear after you’ve collected enough godly boons and heard enough dialogue from characters like Poseidon, Demeter, and Zeus about their ongoing struggle with Chronos.

Eventually, Hermes will appear at the very start of one of your runs. For us, he showed up after just a few hours of play just after we had defeated Headmistress Hecate and left Erebus. After meeting Hermes for the first time, he’ll be added to the permanent pantheon of gods that offer you boons during your runs. Keep an eye out for wing icons on doors if you want to receive Hermes boons.
