The circumstances surrounding the almost-certain closure of GSC Game World, developers of the Stalker series, remains rather murky. Everything from an owner unhappy with the direction of Stalker 2 to intervention by Ukrainian secret service officials asking for kickbacks has been mooted as a reason, but the truth is still to be confirmed.
What we do know is that GSC Game World is going through some sort of closure process. The latest post on the developer’s twitter account states “Our website will continue, with the forum & tech support. The shop will continue until the nearest planned items sell out,” suggesting at least some continuity.
Another, earlier, post offers some minor hope for the future, stating “We will do our best to continue. However, at this moment, nothing is certain”.
An official statement from the studio was expected today, but nothing appears to have been released except those short messages on twitter.
