Grim Dawn will be getting its second expansion this year and today Crate Entertainment has shared details of a new feature that’s being added, Transmutation.

Although the game is fairly generous when it comes to drop rates, Crate wants players to be able to complete sets a little easier for a price. With the new Transmutation system, players will have the option to take a duplicate set item and either turn it into a piece they need to for a set oranother random set item.

Transmuting a set item to an item from the same set will cost more but at least players are guaranteed an item from the same set they really need to help complete it. Players will effectively be able to use a blueprint they already have, mind the materials, craft it, then change it into an item they really need.

The less expensive Transmutation function is Random where an unwanted set item can be placed and a completely random item from another set can be created. For example, a level 94 Legendary set piece would become an item from another Legendary 84-94 set.

The system will be accessed via an Inventor and the ability to Transmute will become available after a quest has been completed. This is great addition which should alleviate some frustration for players looking to complete sets.
