GOTY nomination and awards aside, Baldur’s Gate 3 players confirm Act 3 is still unplayable

Playable or not, BG3 is GOTY.

While Baldur’s Gate 3 has already won many awards and is up for Game of the Year at The Game Awards, it’s been nearly four months since the full release and players are still rightfully complaining that Act 3 is still riddled with bugs.

Is Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 3 broken?

It’s no secret that Act 3 was the least polished part of Baldur’s Gate 3. Look anywhere online and you’ll see people’s personal reports of lag, glitches, bugs, and crashes that only happen in Act 3. According to Czechboy_david on Reddit, patch 4.0 has come and gone, and still, “Act 3 is unplayable.”

It’s nearly been four months since Baldur’s Gate 3 was fully released out of early access, and it was in early access for several years. You’d think with all the time that’s passed, BG3 Act 3 would be fixed and running smoothly.

On Steam alone, almost 500,000 people have reviewed Baldur’s Gate 3 positively. Heck, I even gave Baldur’s Gate 3 a 10/10 because of how imaginative, fun, and innovative the game is. BG3 has already won numerous awards for being an amazing game with amazing voice actors — and despite all of this, Act 3 is still nigh unplayable.

I’ve never actually made it to Act 3 because I’ve restarted the game many times to try new playthroughs with new parties. I am excited to reach Act 3 and finally finish the game, but I’m not excited for the overall quality to plummet. While I still think Baldur’s Gate 3 is GOTY, and I hopefully will keep that high praise even after completing Act 3, I’ll admit that Act 3 needs to be optimized, like, yesterday.

To me, the overwhelmingly positive reviews and impressions of Baldur’s Gate 3, even with one-third of the game being rough, are a testament to how great the game is. People still love BG3 regardless of a lackluster finish, and to me, it’s one of my favorite games I’ve played in years. Hopefully, they fix Act 3 soon so my impression of the game doesn’t drop.
