Glimmora is a strong, bulky, defensive Pokémon introduced in Scarlet and Violet. It has a unique, somewhat misleading design and can poison those who attack it. Obviously, the misleading design, unusual type combination, as well as poison-spreading moves and abilities can make Glimmora frustrating to fight against. However, it doesn’t have to be. Here’s our guide on Glimmora weaknesses and best counters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Glimmora weaknesses and best counters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
Glimmora’s weaknesses
Glimmora has several weaknesses and counters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet due to its rock/poison typing, the largest of which being ground. Both rock and poison are weak to ground. This means ground-type moves are four times as powerful when used on Glimmora.
Glimmora’s other weaknesses will only deal double the amount of damage they would normally, and include steel, water, and psychic. Though Glimmora is strong defensively, it’s weak to several of the most common offensive types in the game.
Glimmora’s stats
Next, let’s talk about Glimmora’s stats in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. It has a base stat total of 525, which is excellent for a non-pseudo or legendary Pokémon, and its highest stat by far is Special Attack.
In terms of defenses, Glimmora’s base Special Defense is 81, while its base Physical Defense is 90. This means Glimorra is more susceptible to Special Attacks.
Glimmora counters
Taking advantage of these weaknesses, one of the best Glimmora counters in Scarlet and Violet currently would be a strong, special ground-type move. Earth Power is a great example; it’s ground-type, special, and has 90 base power. This move is probably your best bet against Glimmora, but there are several alternatives.
Most of the strongest ground-type moves are physical and are used by Pokémon with stellar Physical Attack stats, such as Donphan, Garchomp, or Tyranitar’s Earthquake. There isn’t a huge difference between Glimmora’s Physical and Special Defenses, so these moves and Pokémon are just as viable as counters.
The other types Glimmora is weak to also have several strong special moves to counter the pesky rock/poison type. There are many psychic types, such as Gardevoir and Gallade. These two are strong special attackers who learn potent special moves like psychic.
In terms of water types, Paldea is full of unique water type Pokémon like Veluza, which is water/psychic type. While a physical attacker, Veluza learns a number of solid moves in the water and psychic types.
The final counter I’d like to talk about here is another unique Pokémon with a unique typing: Tinkaton. Tinkaton is fairy/steel type and should be weak to poison thanks to its fairy type, but its additional steel type makes it immune to the poison status effect and poison-type moves. While its base attack stats aren’t great, Tinkaton learns a signature move called Gigaton Hammer. Gigaton Hammer is steel type, 100% accurate, and has 160 base power. Exceptionally few Glimmoras should be able to survive a Gigaton Hammer, making Tinkaton one of the best Glimmora counters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
