How to Get Metal Coat in Pokémon GO

Time to obtain this fancy evolution stone!

Just like its predecessors, Pokémon GO is filled with a huge cast of lovable Pokémon that you can capture and train to increase their power. Most Pokémon to ever be released can be captured in the game, which means it is highly likely that your favorites are a part of Pokémon GO! One of the things that Niantic has been commended for the most is staying true to the older games, and a way they’ve done this is by keeping or tweaking the evolutions that some special Pokémon have. For example, Feebas won’t just evolve straight to Milotic, like in the games, but instead you’ll need to walk with Feebas as your Buddy for 20km first. Another way this has been done was by adding evolution stones into the game for specific Pokémon. In this guide we will cover how to get the Metal Coat, which is an evolution stone you can use for two different Pokémon in Pokémon GO.

Players who were hoping for a straightforward solution will sadly be out of luck when it comes to finding Metal Coat in Pokémon GO. Although Niantic added in evolution stones, which are extremely popular in the main series, they did not give users a direct way to get them. It will come down to luck of the draw, since you need to spin PokéStops in order to get the Metal Coat. That’s right, if you want to evolve the Pokémon that require Metal Coat in the game, you’re just going to cross your fingers and hope for the best from the RNG spirits! At least there’s no difficult task required to obtain the Metal Coat evolution stone!

Our advice for getting the Metal Coat is to spin as many PokéStops as possible, and keep an eye on when they refresh so that you can spin them again! The best places to find PokéStops are downtown in urban areas as there are plenty of landmarks for PokéStops to spawn on. Since they refresh every 5 minutes, doing laps around a park or walking along a trail can help you to hit the same PokéStops multiple times during the same outing. Although this being the only way to get the Metal Coat can seem frustrating, it is the only method to obtaining it at the moment.

Which Pokémon Can Use the Metal Coat?

There are two Pokémon that can use the Metal Coat to evolve, as we’ve previously mentioned. Both Onix and Scyther can make use of the evolution stone and transform into their next evolution stage. Onix will turn into Steelix, while Scyther will change into Scizor. Both are powerful Pokémon in their own right, although Onix is a Rock and Ground type while Steelix is a Steel (obviously) and Ground type. This will change up your team’s composition and make this Pokémon more vulnerable to certain other types, while less vulnerable to others. The same change will occur with Scyther, who goes from a Flying and Bug type to a Steel and Bug type. I guess the new Steel type change for both of these evolutions is where the Metal Coat comes in handy!
