The publisher announced that it will release Gestalt: Steam & Cinder for Steam later this year. It’s currently in development over at Metamorphosis Games. And though there isn’t a gameplay trailer just yet, it’s on its way to PAX East in Boston. Fans attending the show from February 27 through March 1 will be able to give it a try.

Gestalt will bring back memories of the old-school

Inspired by a number of 16 and 32-bit classics before it, Gestalt, “fuses tight 2D platforming and exhilarating combat with an engrossing, twist-laden narrative in a stunningly handcrafted steampunk world,” per the game’s description.

In the game, players will attempt to, “discover the secrets of the massive, steam-powered city of Canaan.” It essentially serves as, “the last bastion of mankind.” But all will not be easy on this journey, as enemies will arise to try and claim it for themselves. These include an army of “monstrous automata” and a handful of the “city’s corrupt overseers.” As you fight to find the dark truth behind the city, you’ll suddenly become its last hope for salvation.

Players will find the nuanced combat system to be really something, as you grow stronger and unlock more melee combos. You can also unleash your revolver for ranged attacks, should the situation call for it.

Gestalt 3

Along with main missions within the game, Gestalt will also throw a few side missions your way. By talking with NPC’s, you’ll complete tasks and open up more of the game. Doing so will enable you to build experience and create new abilities to fight back against the foes you come across.

It sounds like Gestalt: Steam & Cinder will be right up the alley of Metroidvania fans out there. If that has your interest piqued, check out its demo next week. Then be sure to wishlist it on Steam as well.
