In an absolutely bizarre turn of events, miHoYo has shown their hands as Elon Musk fans through a now-deleted Twitter community challenge. The Genshin Impact NPC, Ella Musk, received a new Twitter account the other day (a subtle @Paimon2TheMoon), and the Elon Musk simping was seemingly a ploy to get more followers on her account. I get the joke that they share last names, but it is weird to see an official account calling Elon Musk daddy. Well, maybe more than just a little weird. But the truth is, miHoYo knows what its players want more than anyone else.
The Twitter challenge involved reaching certain milestones of new Twitter followers for the Ella Musk account. At 500,000 followers, the Genshin Impact account would be re-named to Paimon. Okay, pretty normal so far. Although, a strange reward for the players who likely don’t care about the Twitter name of an official account. The real prizes, though, involved following Elon Musk, inviting Elon Musk to stream Genshin Impact, and even inviting him to the studio. Players will undoubtedly flock to see a set of stock photos of Elon Musk posing with miHoYo’s CEO, Dawei, after all.
Really exciting prizes
The prizes were sure to excite players, as the thought of so much Elon Musk stardom inevitably brings up the possibility of a playable Elon Musk. But while I’d appreciate three free blue fates from the world’s most generous billionaire (as we all know him to be), it doesn’t appear as if the rest of my fellow fans agreed. In a surprising turn of events, the reaction from the community was unfortunately pretty negative.
While the joke clearly was a play on the NPC’s last name, it was still a baffling call regardless. Whatever the case, the challenge is now deleted, and my five-star Elon Musk is no longer in sight. Even Elon Musk got excited, tweeting out: “I can’t wait to be in Genshin Impact.” You know what, Elon Musk? I couldn’t wait either.
