Things are heating up in Genshin Impact. It’s not just because you’re in the desert, but also due to all the mysteries that you need to solve. Soon, you’ll find yourself in a place that’s brimming with futuristic tech, as well as a means of boosting your Scarlet Sand Slate clearance level. Here’s our Genshin Impact guide to help you enter the Mausoleum of King Deshret as part of the Golden Slumber Introduction to Indoor Archaeology quest.

Genshin Impact Golden Slumber quest guide – Mausoleum of King Deshret (Introduction to Indoor Archaeology)
Mausoleum Crypt
You’ll receive the Golden Slumber – Introduction to Indoor Archaeology quest in Genshin Impact once you’ve exited the Abdju Pit ruins. Tirzad the researcher and the two mercs will be waiting for you in the nearby oasis, and you’ll simply need to talk to them to proceed.
After that, you’ll need to go to the Mausoleum of King Deshret or, rather, the sand dunes near it as that’s where the quest marker is.
The gigantic doors can’t be entered yet, so you’ll have to head down first.
Benben (aka. 343 Genshin Spark or Genshinbot) will open a smaller passageway in the Mausoleum of King Deshret in Genshin Impact. You’ll then find yourself in a chamber with two corridors at the sides.
Both of these have little rooms with embers (i.e., blue sparks). Think of these as akin to Seelie in that you still need to follow them to get them to move. The difference is that you can release them from the pedestals that they go to so they can reach their intended destination.
After lighting the large torches in the previous chamber with both embers, you’ll be able to advance deeper. There’s a teleporter here, and the group once again encounters a locked door.
If you head to the right (i.e., steps going down), you’ll reach a room with an hourglass device. The idea here is to flip the main hourglass and interact with others just like it nearby within the time limit. If you can do that, a chest will spawn. Next to that is an ember that you can follow back to the main area.
Note: The Altar of Mirages domain is close by. Still, I’m not sure if it can be unlocked at this stage or if the clearance level has to be upgraded further (I only unlocked it after completing the next stage of this questline).
Next, make your way to the left (i.e., steps going up). There’s a ship model here that’s miraculously well-preserved. Grapple to the top so you can grab the ember.
While you have it, step on the illusory floor to make it disappear. Head down and time your movement right as you pass the large fan. You should be able to exit this part with the ember following you.
Treasure Chamber: The Four Coffins/Sarcophagi
With both large torches activated, you’ll be able to head to the next area. The NPCs will have a conversation in front of the mural, and everyone starts to argue.
Shortly thereafter, the group will end up back above ground and right in front of the Mausoleum of King Deshret in Genshin Impact. Benben will unlock the main entrance here. Beyond is the treasure chamber where the goal is to open the four coffins/sarcophagi.
Right side
Over on the right-hand side, you’ll see a device that has pulsating flames. Next to that is a tome mechanism that opens a doorway. Grapple to make it to the top to find the ember. Get it to follow you until it reaches the coffin.
For the other ember, you’ll need to pick up the keystone behind the pile of rubble (also in the same room with the pulsating device).
You can ignore the hourglass contraptions for now and just make it to the end of the winding corridor. At the top, you’ll find the ember.
If you want to do the hourglass puzzle now, wait until another keystone spawns and head back to the corridor. Stand on the plate to spawn another hourglass. Activate it and make a mad dash back to the first hourglass that you passed by, then high-tail it to the section with the fan. Let the fan push you to the last hourglass so you can beat the clock.
This will only spawn a chest, so it might be better if you just wait until you’ve increased your clearance a bit (it will allow you to open the red barriers).
Left side
The left side also has a couple of embers. The first is in the room with the large fan and barrier. Simply interact with the tome/door and grapple to the top.
The second is found if you loop behind the spot with the beam. You can interact with the tome to unseal the door. This allows the two beams to touch, opening another chest.
For the ember, ride the wind current upward. Release it from the pedestal and have it go to the last sarcophagus.
Scarlet Sand Slate clearance
The large sarcophagus in the middle of the room will finally open. Oddly enough, there’s nothing there. Anyway, ride the elevator to the top. There’s a weird machine here that increases the Scarlet Sand Slate’s clearance level.
This completes the Golden Slumber Introduction to Indoor Archaeology quest in Genshin Impact. That also means you’re done with the main objectives in the Mausoleum in King Deshret, at least for now. Next up, you’ll make your way underground for the Secret of Al-Ahmar.
