Genshin Impact Layla guide – Best talents, constellations, and character ascension materials
Recommended Videos
Let’s discuss Layla’s best talents and constellations in Genshin Impact. But, before that, we’ll take a look at her ascension materials.
Ascension materials
Character leveling:
- Scrolls – Dropped by Samachurls.
- Nilotpala Lotus – Found in rivers and ponds in Sumeru. You can take a look at our Nilotpala Lotus farming locations guide if you need help acquiring them.
- Shivada Jade – Dropped by Andrius, Cryo Hypostasis, and Cryo Regisvine.
- Perpetual Caliber – Dropped by the Aeonblight Drake.
Talent leveling:
- Fungal Spores/Crystalline Cyst Dust/Luminescent Pollen – Dropped by fungi/mushroom mobs.
- Ingenuity booklets – Obtained from the Steeple of Ignorance domain every Monday, Thursday, and Sunday.
- Mirror of Mushin – Dropped by the Shouki no Kami/Scaramouche weekly boss.
Note: Layla gains additional HP% from her ascensions, up to 24% past level 80.
Active talents
- Normal Attack: Sword of the Radiant Path – This boosts Layla’s normal, charged, and plunging attack damage.
- Elemental Skill: Nights of Formal Focus – Deals minimal Cryo AoE damage and creates a shield that affects the active character. The damage absorption is based on a percentage of Layla’s max HP. There are also a few other factors to take note of:
- Night Star -While the shield is active, it will create one Night Star charge every 1.5 seconds. If a shielded character uses their skill, two Night Star charges will be created.
- Shooting Stars – Once there are four Night Stars, these projectiles will be fired off in a sequence. They only target a single enemy, though they might affect nearby hostiles via splash damage as long as they’re really close to each other.
- Expiration – If the duration expires or if the shield breaks prematurely, then any accumulated Night Stars will also disappear.
- Elemental Burst: Dream of the Star-Stream Shaker – Spawns a crystalline orb that shoots projectiles at a single target, though nearby foes can still be affected via splash damage. The projectiles also add a Night Star charge if the shield is active.
Passive talents
- Shadowy Dream Signs – 10% chance to receive double the talent material that she crafts.
- Like Nascent Light – While the shield is active, the shield strength is increased by 6% for every Night Star charge that’s gained; maximum of four stacks and lasts until the shield disappears/breaks.
- Sweet Slumber Undisturbed – Shooting Star projectiles from Layla’s elemental skill have their damage increased by 1.5% of Layla’s maximum HP.
Constellations
- C1: Fortress of Fantasy – +20% shield absorption. The elemental skill activation also creates a weaker shield that protects others in the party in case they’re not shielded (i.e., viable for co-op).
- C2: Light’s Remit – Shooting Star projectiles restore +1 energy to Layla.
- C3: Secrets of the Night – +3 elemental skill level; max upgrade level of 15.
- C4: Starry Illumination – Once the Night Stars of the shield turn into Shooting Stars, all party members have their normal and charged attack damage increased by 5% of Layla’s max HP. This buff lasts for three seconds and will disappear after a boosted normal or charged attack occurs.
- C5: Stream of Consciousness – +3 elemental burst level; max upgrade level of 15.
- C6: Radiant Soulfire – +40% projectile damage from the elemental skill and elemental burst; Night Star charge generation is also sped up slightly.
Talent/constellation priorities and summary
Layla is a fairly decent support shielder in Genshin Impact:
- Talent priority: Elemental skill -> Elemental burst -> Normal attack (ignore).
- Layla’s shield absorption and the projectile damage from her elemental burst scale from her max HP. That’s why you’ll want to stack as much HP% as possible.
- The shield created by Layla is quite powerful, and it can mitigate a lot of damage. However, if she doesn’t have a lot of HP and it breaks too easily, then you won’t be able to maximize Night Star charges/Shooting Star projectiles. Still, you might be able to manage by popping her skill, followed by her burst, as well as the other skills of your party members.
- Diona, with her healing, tends to be better than Layla when considering (a) mobs that apply Corrosion, (b) heavy damage that can be tough to avoid, and (c) poor dodging on the part of the player.
- Layla’s elemental skill does not generate a particle for her when she casts it. Since you’ll likely swap to another character as part of your rotation, she tends to be energy starved. Her C2 offsets this slightly since she’ll directly obtain particles whenever Shooting Stars hit. That makes it integral in case you don’t want to rely on the energy recharge stat or Cryo batteries.
- Her C4, meanwhile, is a good DPS boost for characters who often use normal and charged attacks.
- The biggest downside when trying to get her constellations, at least at this stage, is when you already have the 5-star characters from banner reruns. If you’re not planning on getting older characters, then you probably don’t want to waste your primogems/crystals or pities.
That’s it for best talents — let’s discuss the best team comps for this sleepyhead in the next part of our Genshin Impact Layla guide series.
