Kaeya is a free 4-star Cryo character given to all players in the game. However, don’t let his low price tag trick you. Kaeya has some tricks up his sleeve and can be run in a variety of different team comps, excelling in different roles.

Kaeya has a generally solid kit, with decently strong Normal Attacks, an Elemental Skill called “Frostgnaw” that can dish out some high Cryo damage, and a strong Elemental Burst called “Glacial Waltz.” Glacial Waltz is the strongest ability in his kit, sending swirling icicles around his body which both apply a high amount of the Cryo element to enemies. These icicles can also deal some good damage themselves, bolstered even more with his Constellation 6 which adds an extra icicle. With his kit in mind, you may be surprised to know how many teams Kaeya works in.

Here are some examples of team comps you can use with Kaeya in Genshin Impact:

  • Kaeya / Kazuha / Chongyun / Xingqiu or Yelan: This team is one of Kaeya’s strongest teams, which puts him at the center of attention as a hypercarry. This is a Freeze team, designed to keep enemies permanently frozen, and is a good budget-level team as many of these characters are easy to get for free-to-play players. Here, you use Kazuha to crowd-control enemies together and use Chongyun’s Elemental Skill to convert all of Kaeya’s Normal Attacks into Cryo DMG. Paired with Xingqiu or Yelan, you can keep enemies frozen and deal high damage with Kaeya’s Elemental Burst and decently strong Normal Attacks.

  • Kaeya / Shenhe or Rosaria / Xiangling / Bennett: This is a team designed to trigger the Melt reaction. Xiangling and Bennett in combination with Kaeya and Shenhe can deal tons of damage, as Kaeya and Shenhe trigger the Melt reaction with Xiangling and Bennett. Rosaria is a F2P alternative to Shenhe, a rarer 5-star character.
  • Kaeya / Xingqiu / Xiangling / Bennett: Here’s another F2P-friendly team, similar to the famous “National” meta team. Xiangling and Bennett apply tons of Pyro to enemies, while Xingqiu and Kaeya take turns applying Vaporize and Melt.

As a free character himself, many of Kaeya’s best teams are not only competitive but friendly to players who might not spend as much in the game. Seek out these teams to make sure your Kaeya gameplay is top notch in Genshin Impact.
