Genshin Impact Gorou guide – Talent priorities and passives
Let’s talk about Gorou’s build in Genshin Impact based on his talent priorities and passives.
Normal Attack: Ripping Fang Fletching – This boosts Gorou’s normal, charged, and plunging attack damage.
Elemental Skill: Inuzaka All-Round Defense – Deploys a General’s War Banner that deals a bit of damage. The skill creates an aura with a 10-second duration and a 10-second cooldown. Basically, it’s got near-constant uptime. The General’s War Banner also provides buffs based on the number of Geo characters in your party:
- Standing Firm (one Geo character) – Increases DEF.
- Impregnable (two Geo characters) – Increased resistance to interruption.
- Crunch (three Geo characters) – Increases Geo damage bonus.
Elemental Burst: Juuga Forward Unto Victory – This creates a General’s Glory aura. has the same effects as the elemental skill/General’s War Banner in that the buffs are dependent on the number of Geo characters in your party. There are also some additional features:
- Crystal Collapse – Deals AoE Geo damage to one enemy within the aura every 1.5 seconds.
- Elemental Shard Pull – Every 1.5 seconds, an Elemental Shard (i.e., shield) gets pulled to your character so you don’t need to run over to its spot.
- The aura itself will move along with the active character, so it’ll be present even if you run to a nearby location.
- The aura lasts nine seconds and has a 20-second cooldown.
- Since only one General’s War Banner can exist at any point in time, the burst will also clear the banner spawned by the elemental skill. Additionally, using the elemental skill won’t deploy a new banner if the burst is still active.
Ideally, we’ll want to think of Gorou as a support character, someone who can further boost the capabilities of Zhongli, Albedo, and, most importantly, Arataki Itto. As such, we’re going to ignore his normal attack and elemental burst. Instead, we’ll simply prioritize his elemental skill. That’s because Standing Firm, the DEF buff from the General’s War Banner, will also get increased when you level up this talent. This will also increase the corresponding effect of the General’s Glory burst.
Note: Gorou’s talents can be upgraded by using Light booklets (from the Violet Court domain every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday), as well as Spectral Husk and other variants dropped by Specter mobs. Higher levels also require the Molten Moment dropped by La Signora.
Passives
- Seeker of Shinies – Displays resources that are unique to Inazuma on the minimap.
- Heedless of Wind and Weather – After using your elemental burst, all party members have their DEF increased by 25% for 12 seconds.
- A Favor Repaid – Gorou receives damage bonuses that scale with his DEF stat:
- Elemental skill damage increased by 156% of DEF.
- Elemental burst and Crystal Collapse damage increased by 15.6% of DEF.
Constellations
- C1: Rushing Hound: Swift as the Wind – When characters other than Gorou who are in the General’s War Banner/General’s Glory aura deal Geo damage to enemies, Gorou’s elemental skill cooldown is decreased by two seconds. This can only occur every 10 seconds.
- C2: Sitting Hound: Steady as a Clock – While your elemental burst is active, its duration is increased by one second when a character picks up an Elemental Shard. The max extension is three seconds.
- C3: Mauling Hound: Fierce as Fire – +3 levels for your elemental skill; maximum level is 15.
- C4: Lapping Hound: Warm as Water – If your burst has the Impregnable (two Geo characters) or Crunch (three Geo characters) states, active characters will be healed by 50% of Gorou’s DEF every 1.5 seconds.
- C5: Striking Hound: Thunderous Force – +3 levels for your elemental burst; maximum level is 15.
- C6: Valiant Hound: Mountainous Fealty – For 12 seconds after using your elemental skill or elemental burst, all party members’ Geo abilities will have their crit damage increased by:
- +10% – Standing Firm (one Geo character).
- +20% – Impregnable (two Geo characters).
- +40% – Crunch (three Geo characters).
I should warn you that trying to increase Constellations even on 4-star characters can be very costly. Still, if you really need to, then you’ll want to reach C6 with Gorou. The +40% crit damage increase is amazing, especially for Mono-Geo comps (or three Geo comps and a support character of a different element).
All right, let’s go to the next part of our Genshin Impact Gorou guide to talk about the best weapons and artifacts for him.
