Enhancing your Artifacts

Recommended Videos

After discussing Artifact sets and set bonuses, it’s time to learn how to enhance these items in Genshin Impact. It’s actually similar to how you’ve increased the damage of your weapons. You pick one and then use up several items as fodder to increase your selection’s EXP and level.

The main difference here is that it’s not possible to use enhancement ores of any kind. That means only Artifacts you’ve looted can be used as “leveling/infusion fodder.” This is what makes elite monster farming and general exploration viable activities. They give out Artifacts of varying rarities that can be used for enhancement purposes.

Note: Refining — using the same item to boost the original one’s effects, such as the case with weapons — also isn’t an option.

Anyway, first, take a look at the image above for the concepts to remember. The main stat is what makes an Artifact valuable because it’s directly increased each time you enhance the item.

You could have something that has a 4-star rarity, or perhaps one that’s part of a decent Artifact set. However, if the main stat doesn’t give you a damage increase, then that’d be a problem.

Compare the two images above and below. The example above shows a 4-star Martial Artist goblet, but the main stat increases Geo damage. I’m not going to use that because Geo isn’t ideal for offensive elemental combos. Likewise, Geo characters like Noelle and Ningguang are a bit disappointing compared to the rest of Genshin Impact‘s character roster.

Next, take a look at the other Martial Artist goblet below. It only has a 3-star rarity, but that increases a character’s attack by a percentage which is great for DPS.

Note: Prioritize the +ATK stat (usually from the feather/plume slot) if you want to increase your damage in Genshin Impact. As for +ATK%, it’s a secondary option for other slots if you can’t find anything with +ATK.

If you’re concerned about using up too many low-level Artifacts to boost something, don’t fret. You gain more EXP from fodder if it’s got a higher level or rarity. Plus, there’s a chance for the enhancement process to grant bonus EXP as well.

Lastly, do remember that Artifact rarities have level caps (you can’t enhance them past a certain point):

  • 1-star (white) and 2-star (green) – Caps at level 4.
  • 3-star (blue) – Caps at level 12.
  • 4-star (purple) – Caps at level 16.
  • 5-star (orange) – Caps at level 20.

All right, now that we’ve discussed Genshin Impact’s Artifact sets and enhancement mechanics, let’s talk about additional tips for your characters.
