Gameplay tips and character summary
We’ve already discussed Arataki Itto’s weapons, artifacts, and talent priorities in Genshin Impact. But, should you actually grab him from gacha wishes?
Itto is actually a fairly decent 5-star character. In many ways, you can think of him as the Geo Xiao. By that, I mean that he goes against the norm of how a particular element functions. If Anemo is supposed to focus on Swirls and crowd control, then Xiao is the antithesis of that since he’s just there to stab hostiles dead. Meanwhile, Arataki Itto is someone who functions as a main DPS character, even though the Geo element tends to be for shield generation and added survivability.
Itto’s hits with Geo (infused by his elemental burst) cause a lot of damage. Likewise, think of the scaling that he gets from DEF, ensuring that it’s an all-important stat/sub-stat to focus on (at least once you’ve got high crit rate and crit damage values). You’ll be using a normal attack string and the Ushi bull taunt to generate more Superlative Strength stacks. This is followed by Arataki Kesagiri slashes that consume those stacks.
As for team comps, I would suggest the following:
- Arataki Itto is your main DPS/selfish carry. You can’t swap him out while his burst is active since that will remove the effect.
- Albedo is your sub-DPS/off-field DPS. He can pop his elemental skill to generate shields and cause additional damage. You may also try Zhongli.
- Another new character, Gorou, fills the third slot. This is because of his General’s War Banner elemental skill and corresponding effects for his elemental burst. With three Geo characters in the party, the skill provides increased Geo damage. Furthermore, Gorou’s skill/burst and talent give additional DEF to party members.
