Homeworld Remastered is out later this month, but could more be coming?

Gearbox’ Chief Creative Officer Brian Martel has hinted that Homeworld Remastered could be the start of a Homeworld franchise revival due to the richness of the game’s universe. When we asked what the future may hold for Homeworld once the remastered versions are released on 25 February, Brian said:

“We love sci-fi and I think that this brand brings a really cool place to play around with a lot of different types of gameplay. RTS is one thing, and that’s cool, but I think if you really spend a lot of time and imagine different types of games that could happen in this universe I think it opens up pretty quickly into what else could be done.”

It’s an interesting idea, moving the Homeworld franchise into new areas and it sounds like that might be something they’ll look at in the future.

Homeworld is a much-loved series that should engage younger gamers that missed out on playing the game when it was released way back in 1999. It’s hard to believe that it’s been sixteen years since the first game arrived on the PC and we’re sure there’s many older PC gamers eagerly awaiting this upcoming reboot. Let’s also not forget about Homeworld: Shipbreakers from Blackbird Entertainment too after they signed a deal with Gearbox to use the Homeworld name.

We’ll be talking more with Gearbox about Homeworld Remastered in the coming days and we’re also going hands-on here at IncGamers so keep an eye on the site if you want to know more.
