With around four days left and $600,000 USD still required to hit the Kickstarter goal, Gas Powered Games has brought the Wildman campaign to an early end. The latest update posted on the Kickstarter says that the team wish to “focus our attention on other ways to keep Gas Powered Games running.”
The company has been undergoing some serious financial strain recently, with Chris Taylor having to announce layoffs from the studio just a few days into Wildman’s Kickstarter debut.
“We are profoundly grateful to those of you who backed this project and Gas Powered Games. Your passion and hard work put us in a position to write this exciting new chapter in the history of GPG,” the post adds.
The team says it cannot share any “specifics” of plans for the company going forward, but to watch the forums at Gas Powered. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, the link to those forums is down.
The company may now attempt to go to a traditional publisher with the game. When I spoke with Chris Taylor in January, he told me that external offers had already been made.
“We’ll have a very difficult situation to manage through but I want to say that the phone has been ringing, people have been calling and asking us about Wildman. They are saying, “Hey, maybe there is a partnership here.” I don’t know the details, those conversations are just getting started. We haven’t worked out any terms.”
