Behaviour Interactive and Games Workshop have announced the development of Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade, an MMORPG set in the grimdark 41st millennium.

Details are a bit thin on the ground right now, but here’s what we know: it’s described as “3rd-person persistent online action in the first MMORPG of the 41st millennium.” It’s also described as a “persistent war experience for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.”

Players will be able to pick a race of their choice (and if the site is any indication it looks like the Imperium, Orks, Chaos, and Eldar are in) and fight, as one of those warriors, in a battle for territory. The war will apparently span an entire planet, so this currently sounds rather Planetside. You can currently sign up on the aforementioned site by handing over your name, email address, and phone number, but it’s not clear whether that’s for a mailing list or if it’s something to do with a potential closed beta. I’d guess the former right now, but you never know.

More info when we get it. This announcement appears to be the first “phase” of nine for Eternal Crusade, with the final one presumably being launch. As that’s currently teased for the “end of 2015,” we guess we’ll be getting periodic updates over the next 30 months.
