Texas Chainsaw Massacre isn’t the first game of its type, and if you ask me, it isn’t even the best! That isn’t taking away from the bloody mayhem you can have playing it, though. If you’re looking for something in the same thread, check out these games.

Dead by Daylight

Behaviour Interactive

Dead by Daylight came out all the way back in 2016, and yet it is still being updated and still has a solid player base. This is just a testament to how good the gameplay is and how much fun can be had.

The game runs in the same thread as Texas Chainsaw Massacre as another one in the asymmetrical multiplayer genre. One person takes on the role of the killer, and it is up to the rest of the players to survive and fight back. Dead by Daylight has a huge range of both hunters and the hunted, giving plenty of scope for variation.

Dead by Daylight has some amazing cameos to play, such as Chucky, Pinhead, and everyone’s favorite hero, Nicolas Cage. If you’re looking for games like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, you should pick up a copy of Dead by Daylight. You’ll quickly realize why, years on, it is still a fan favorite.

Friday the 13th

IllFonic

Another classic in the asymmetrical horror multiplayer genre. I played this game so much when it came out, and then years later, too. It is similar to Texas Chainsaw Massacre in a lot of ways, including being a horror movie franchise piece.

Friday the 13th is buggy as hell, and the servers are a nightmare, but it is so much fun to play. It is exactly as hammy as you would expect a slasher game to be. All you have to do is try to escape from Jason as he stalks you through the woods. He is wildly overpowered and only gets stronger as the game goes on.

Using the environment around you, and the hilariously incapable characters, you can try your best to stall and finally get your freedom. Friday the 13th has all the gore and over-the-top acting you want from the genre. Tension is only broken up by the hilarious murders and close calls.

Hello Neighbor

Hello Neighbour
Dynamic Pixels

This title is a little bit of a weird one, but it is still a lot of fun nonetheless. Unlike the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, this game’s predator is a weird old guy trying to grab some kids in an old house. If it can be equated to any film, then I would maybe say Home Alone.

The hunted play as kids in their neighbor’s house. He has kidnapped one of them and locked them in his basement. The kids must work together to get to the trapped child. However, one of the children is the Neighbor in disguise. It is the job of the neighbor to thwart the plans of the kids and get rid of them one by one.

This is part horror game akin to Texas Chain Saw Massacre and part detective puzzler. It isn’t the gory blood fest you may be used to, but it does add a couple of extra elements to play with.

Don’t Starve Together

Klei Entertainment

If survival games are your thing, and the hunter side of Texas Chain Saw Massacre takes more of a back seat, then you should give Don’t Starve Together a go. It focuses on teamwork between your friends to survive.

Don’t Starve is an already widely well-received game, and the adaptation to a multiplayer platform just made sense. The games are procedurally generated every time, meaning you will never play the same game twice.

The name of the game is Survival and Exploration. With your friends, you need to ready yourself for the horrors to come with farming, exploration, and resource collection. The game itself is beautifully rendered in a unique and inspired art style.

This is not your regular hammy slasher game like the Texas Chain Saw Massacre, but the teamwork, tension, and fun are all still there.

Devour

Straight Back Games

This game, in the asymmetrical horror genre, has a similar theme to Texas Chainsaw Massacre. You play as either a cultist trying to drag a demon to hell with them or as the demon trying its best not to return.

The aim of the game is to collect all the items from around the map and complete the ritual. However, the items change every time, and the demon is hell-bent on not returning. The game has a certain Slenderman element to it, which is sure to add a lot of tension.

If you’re looking for a game that doesn’t have the gore and blood of games like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, then you should grab this one. For every drop of blood it doesn’t have, it makes up for it with terrifying tension.
