An asymmetric multiplayer title based on the Friday the 13th license is in development at an “experienced game studio,” according to reports circulating today. EGM is the publication with the source on this, and confirmed the game’s existence with original Friday the 13th creator Sean S Cunningham.
By the sounds of things, the title will cast several players as “resourceful” (you hope) survivors, while another takes the role of loveable Jason Voorhees who just wants to give everybody a hug. … A MURDER HUG.
“We have some exciting new ideas for a game that supplies plenty of replay value,” says Cunningham. The game will apparently reference the original movie series, but also incorporate some themes from an upcoming television series based around the infamous events at Camp Crystal Lake.
Friday the 13th is due in October this year. I’m going to take a wild guess that they’re aiming to time it with Halloween. It’ll be coming to “multiple platforms” which, given the multiplayer nature of the game, almost certainly includes the PC.
Now let’s take a brief trip back in time to 1986, when an utterly amazing game based on Friday the 13th was released for the ZX Spectrum (and other machines) by Domark.
