As we reported yesterday, the Freedom Cry DLC for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was delayed on the PC. Today, it appears to have been released … for some. For reasons unknown, certain versions of the game just don’t seem to be getting the Freedom Cry update.
Based on the findings of various players in the Steam and Ubisoft forums, it would appear that those who’ve purchased Freedom Cry separately have been able to download and play the game. Whereas, those who should have access to the DLC thanks to one of the five million special/digital/pre-order editions do not yet appear to have the Adewale-focused add on.
Here’s my own situation: the copy of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Digital Deluxe Edition (with Freedom Cry included) has simply vanished from my Uplay account, and when I was trying to load it up earlier (when it was still present in my game library) it was completely unable to connect to Ubisoft’s servers.
People are speculating that someone, somewhere forgot to actually add Freedom Cry to the special/deluxe/etc versions, which may explain the Deluxe Edition disappearance. It may be the case that they’re being hurriedly re-updated to include it.
For now, PC users who should already own the DLC will have to just sit and wait for Ubisoft to sort it out. The publisher has made no official statement about this situation and didn’t even seem to think it was worth mentioning that the PC version is actually out today (for some, at least.)
