Fortnite is adding subscriptions called Crew, featuring exclusive cosmetics and value

Fortscriptions.

There’s always something new and cool to buy in Fortnite it seems. Those tantalizing cosmetics can get expensive quite fast though, as many of us know. Therefore, as the game progresses into new seasons Epic continues to introduce new options to keep the V-Bucks flowing. Earlier this year, it permanently reduced the cost of the in-game currency to incentivize players to splurge more on their favorite emotes and skins. Now, monthly subscriptions are about to officially be a thing in Fortnite.

We’ve known about the possibility of Fortnite subscriptions for a couple of weeks now. Epic sent out a survey to players asking how they felt about the proposed service model. It seems the results were more or less positive. The general perks are the same as what were advertised in the survey. Players will be excited to learn that pricing will be on the low end. For $11.99 USD per month, players will receive more rewards than ever before.

Epic calls the new service Fortnite Crew, and the subscriptions will without a doubt be the best value for Fortnite players. This is because it includes Battle Pass access, monthly exclusive outfit packs, and 1,000 V-Bucks for in-game transactions. That’s like the amount of value you get from the most expensive bundle in the item shop, you know, without spending $99.99 USD. The subscriptions can also be canceled any time. You just pay on a month-to-month basis.

Adjusting expectations

Epic is clearly going for player retention and a steady revenue stream by introducing this option. Given the fact that Fortnite is several years old now and doesn’t have a stranglehold on the battle royale genre anymore, it seems like the right move. However billions of dollars of revenue is still not enough. Epic hopes to see Fortnite continue to chug along with more cosmetics and content clearly in the works for years to come.

The Fortnite subscription will become available for purchase on December 2 with the arrival of Chapter 2 Season 5. Customers who purchase the subscription will receive the Galaxia skin along with the Cosmic Llamacorn Pickaxe and Fractured World Back Bling. That also includes the aforementioned 1,000 V-Bucks and Battle Pass access. Epic will unveil the January subscription pack sometime in December. You can find out more about how the subscription works on the new product page.
