How to earn Map Pieces and Cursed Gold in Fortnite
During the Cursed Sails event, players earn Cursed Gold by completing The Pirates’ Code Quests. Every 1,000 Cursed Gold earns you a free reward on the Cursed Sails Reward Track, with eleven bonus rewards available for those who purchase the Premium Reward Track for 1,000 V-Bucks.
Budding pirates can also earn Jack’s Ship Glider for free by collecting all eight Map Pieces, obtainable by completing four quests in all eight Pirate Code quest sections. You’ve got your work cut out for you, mate — but that’s why I’m here to help you with every quest below.
Pirate Code One Quests
Complete four Pirate Code One Quests to earn Map Piece One, as well as XP and Cursed Gold.
Destroy structures or objects with a Ship in a Bottle
Ship in a Bottle is a new Pirates of the Caribbean Mythic item obtained from Chests in the Shipwreck Shallows pirate ship or lone pirate ship on the east side of the Island. It only has one charge before it disappears, so use it wisely!
Using the Ship in a Bottle allows you to sail atop a ghostly ship, damaging everything in its path. Embrace your inner Blackbeard and use the Ship in a Bottle in front of an area dense with structures and objects to complete this Quest.
Walk the plank
To “walk the plank,” visit the Shipwreck Shallows pirate ship in the middle of the map and step off the plank at the side. If Shipwreck Shallows is looking a little too busy, you can also use the pirate ship on the east side of the island.
Locate a Jar of Dirt and deliver to Jack Sparrow
The Jar of Dirt is located in front of the train wreck at Orchard Station in the north part of the wasteland section of the map. Once you’ve grabbed it, it’s time to return it to its rightful owner, Jack Sparrow.
Jack Sparrow wanders across a cove across from the pirate ship on the East side of the Island. Talk to him and give him the one item that can defeat Davy Jones.
Hit headshots or eliminate opponents
Grab your favorite ranged weapon of choice and land headshots or eliminate players ten times. The fastest way to complete this is by defeating players with headshots, as both the hits and elimination will count towards your progress.
Hit an opponent with a single pistol shot
In Pirates of the Caribbean, Jack’s pistol is loaded with only a single shot ready for Barbossa. Simply shoot a player once with any pistol to complete this quest.
Collect gold bars from eliminated players
Eliminated players drop gold bars when defeated. After you’ve sent a foe back to the Lobby, run over to their location and pick up their bars. You’ll need to collect a total of 100 bars from players, which should only take five or fewer eliminations in total.
Hit opponents with different weapon types
Ticking off this quest is as easy as hitting players with three different weapon types — for example, a shotgun, pistol, and assault rifle. Progress is counted across multiple matches, so you’ll likely complete this one without thinking.
Pirate Code Two Quests
Completing four Pirate Code One Quests unlocks the Pirate Code Two section. Ticking off four Quests in this section unlocks Map Piece Two.
Raise the flag on the Floating Island
Toward the end of a Fortnite Battle Royale match, a Floating Island (AKA Loot Island) will appear in a random location. Head to its location marked on the map and ascend onto the Island through its ascenders or the nearby rifts.
To raise the flag on the Floating Island, stand in the center and wait for the flag to rise to the top. The flag will only move if you (or a teammate) stand inside the circle, so make sure you’re well-prepared to defend yourself.
Damage players that have damaged you
Completing this Quest requires you to deal 500 damage to players that have damaged you. Since your opponents probably won’t stand still, you’ll likely complete this task naturally as you progress the others. If not, there’s always Team Rumble.
Drink potions in different matches
In Fortnite, a “potion” is what many players refer to as Shield Pots and Minis. Drink at least one type of Shield Potion over the course of three matches to complete this Quest.
Damage opponents with the Flint-Knock Pistol or travel distance from its knockback
Flint-Knock Pistols can be found as regular loot or purchased from Brite Raider (1), Chiara (2), Rust (3), or Persephone (4) for Bars. Either Track the quest in-game or use the map above to find the NPCs who sell the Flint-Knock.
Firing the Flint-Knock blasts you in the opposite direction a considerable distance. Use the Flint-Knock’s knockback to travel and shoot enemies to progress this Quest over multiple matches. Make sure to jump to increase your distance!
Speak to a character before taking damage
Speak to any NPC before taking any damage in a match to complete this quest. Courtesy of Fortnite.gg, you can find the locations of every character in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 above.
Pirate Code Three Quests
Completing four Pirate Code Two Quests unlocks the Pirate Code Three section. Ticking off four Quests in this section unlocks Map Piece Three.
Read “Dead Mens’ Tales” Book
The Dead Mens’ Tales Book is located on a desk in a small building next to the green river, directly west of Grim Gate. “Read” the book (which actually has no pages) to complete the Quest.
Listen to Pirate Tales from different Pirates
During the Cursed Sails, there are four Pirates of the Caribbean NPCs across the island. Find and talk to Elizabeth (1), Davy Jones (2), Barbossa (3), and Jack Sparrow (4) to complete the “Listen to Pirate Tales from different Pirates” Quest.
Reboot, Revive, or Eliminate in the Underworld
The Underworld is a POI in the southwest corner of the Island. Eliminate a player, revive a squad member, or use the Reboot Van in The Underworld to complete this Quest. This is a shared Quest, meaning anyone in your Squad can complete it for the rest of the team.
Eliminate opponents while carrying a Medallion
Medallions are dropped by The Machinist in Redline Rig, Ringmaster Scarr in Nitrodrome, and Megalo Don in Brutal Beachhead. Sometimes, these bosses can go for a joyride in their vehicle in a random section of the Island. Luckily, you can always see the location of all three Medallions on the map.
Visit Shipwreck Shallows and eliminate an opponent in a single match
Shipwreck Shallows is the Pirates of the Caribbean POI in the middle of the map. Visit Shipwreck Shallows and eliminate an opponent anywhere in the same match to complete this challenge. You can even take out an opponent and then visit Shipwreck Shallows.
Pirate Code Four Quests
Completing four Pirate Code Three Quests unlocks the Pirate Code Four section. Ticking off four Quests in this section unlocks Map Piece Four.
Deliver 99 Souls to Davy Jones
To “deliver 99 souls to Davy Jones,” you must eliminate a total of 99 players, NPCs, or wildlife. h I highly recommend completing your other Quests first and then using Team Rumble to mop up the remaining “souls.”
While you’re out questing, shoot everything you see. Wildlife, henchmen, players — anything that moves. Don’t forget that this is an assisted quest, meaning your crew members can help you out, too.
Earn a Double Elimination
To earn a “Double Elimination,” you need to eliminate two opponents within seconds of each other. The easiest way to do this is by finding and taking out two bots fighting each other.
In every Fortnite match, there are bots masquerading as real players — you can typically tell who is a bot by their erratic movement, unnatural behavior, and terrible aim. These bots are extremely easy to kill and are fantastic for Quests like this.
Accept “Survive the Black Mark” from Davy Jones
To accept “Survive the Black Mark,” pay Davy Jones a visit in the area marked above. You only need to talk to him and accept the Black Mark challenge to complete the quest.
Accepting the Black Mark challenge exposes your location for three minutes and awards you 100 Gold Bars if you survive the entire duration.
Travel distance while holding a Treasure Map
The Treasure Map is an item that will point you toward buried treasure while holding it. You can find Treasure Maps chests or purchase one from Elizabeth (1), Davy Jones (2), Barbossa (3), or Jack Sparrow (4) for Bars.
Deal damage with 3 different ranged weapons in a single match
To complete this quest, hit opponents with three different ranged weapons in the same match. Ranged weapons include guns and anything throwable.
Pirate Code Five Quests
Completing four Pirate Code Five Quests unlocks the Pirate Code Six section. Ticking off four Quests in this section unlocks Map Piece Five.
Search rare or buried treasure chests
The easiest way to complete the “Search rare or buried treasure chests” Quest is by visiting the small beach near Pleasant Piazza. The volleyball court always has buried treasure chests, which don’t require a Treasure Map to find.
Alternatively, you can find rare chests randomly across the Island and use Treasure Maps found in chests or purchased from pirate NPCs to find buried treasure. Hit them with your pickaxe to dig them up.
Somehow acquire a Victory Royale
To complete this quest, you or your squad need to earn a Victory Royale, which means winning a match. Luckily, it still counts if you’re eliminated, but your teammate manages to clutch and win the game. Good luck!
Hit a player with a Coconut
Coconuts have a chance to appear in Produce Boxes, the green and brown boxes containing food. While these are found in buildings across the Island, the best location to find a coconut is Reckless Railways, which has a whopping 34 Produce Boxes across the POI.
To hit a player with a coconut, hold the aim button (left-click on PC) and fire as you would with any other weapon. It won’t do any damage, but it’s pretty funny and will complete this Quest.
Pilfer weapons from weapon cases
Weapon Cases primarily spawn in Bunkers, which open at the late end of a match, though you can also find them in certain other locations. Check the map above, for the location of all Weapon Cases (numbered) and Bunkers (circled) in Fortnite.
Flee distance after surviving damage from an opponent
After an enemy has damaged you, run as far as you can to complete this Quest. If you’re anything like me, you’ll achieve this by playing normally.
Pirate Code Six Quests
Completing four Pirate Code Five Quests unlocks the Pirate Code Six section. Ticking off four Quests in this section unlocks Map Piece Six.
Defeat a Boss
To complete this Quest, you (or your Squad) need to defeat The Machinist in Redline Rig, Ringmaster Scarr in Nitrodrome, or Megalo Don in Brutal Beachead. Sometimes, one of these Bosses will go for a ride around the island, but you can track all three via their Medallion Icons on the map.
You can also complete this Quest by defeating the henchmen that carry the keycard for Forecast Stations, which is typically much easier. These are marked on your map when they spawn.
Collect gifts from characters
Note: This quest was originally “Defeat a Dueling character with a pistol or melee weapon,” but was changed on August 2nd due to an issue.
The first time you speak to an NPC during a match, they’ll drop a “gift” for free, such as a Health Kit or Shield Potion. Speak to every NPC you come across and take their gifts to complete this quest.
Destroy the 9 False Pieces of Eight on the island
The nine False Pieces of Eight are located in Pleasant Piazza, Lavish lair, and Grand Glacier. Smash all three with your pickaxe in one location, then move onto the next. Like most Pirate Code quests, you don’t need to complete these in the same match.
Collect a Victory Crown from an eliminated player
Victory Crowns are awarded to players after receiving a Victory Royale. However, if you’re eliminated, you’ll drop your Victory Crown. Eliminate a player carrying one of these Crowns and pick it up for yourself to complete this Quest.
Destroy Slurp, Slap, or Nitro barrels
Slurp and Nitro barrels are located all over the map, so you shouldn’t have a problem completing this quest naturally as you progress the others. However, if you’re struggling, Grim Gate and Shipwreck Shores have enough Slurp Barrels to complete this Quest in one visit.
Pirate Code Seven Quests
Completing four Pirate Code Six Quests unlocks the Pirate Code Seven section. Ticking off four Quests in this section unlocks Map Piece Seven.
Damage opponents or travel distance with Cannons
At both pirate ships on the Island, players can find Cannons to fire at other players or shoot themselves (safely) a large distance. The easiest way to complete this quest is to hop in a cannon and fire yourself as far as possible into the sky. Rinse and repeat until you’ve traveled a total of 500 meters.
Damage opponents in the storm
To complete this quest, you need to deal a total of 100 damage to enemies while standing in the Storm. Stock up on healing items, and you should be fine, but remember that the Storm deals more damage the larger it is.
Consume Apples
While you can find Apples in food containers, the easiest way to acquire the Apples you need to consume for this Quest is to buy them from Barbossa in Shipwreck Shallows. If you’ve ever seen Pirates of the Caribbean, you’ll understand just how ironic this is.
Restore health or gain shields using food
Food is found in food containers throughout the Island. Reckless Railways and Sandy Steppes are the POIs with the most possible containers, though you can find them in most places on the bottom half of the Island. Chow down and restore 100 Health and/or Shields to complete this Quest
Outlast players
Outlasting players simply means living longer than them during a match. For example, if you come first, you’ve outlasted 99 other players. To complete this quest, you need to outlast a total of 200 players, which you should do naturally while completing the other Quests.
Pirate Code Eight Quests
Completing four Pirate Code Seven Quests unlocks the Pirate Code Eight section. Ticking off four Quests in this section unlocks the final map piece, Map Piece 8. Once you have this, the Jack’s Ship Glider is yours to keep!
Restore health or gain shields from an Oasis Pool
Oasis Pools are bodies of water in the Wasteland section of the Island that restore Shield and Health when stood in. Visit any of the Oasis Pools marked on the map above and restore a total of 25 Health or Shields to complete this Quest.
How to visit Davy Jones’ Locker
To “visit Davy Jones’ Locker,” all you need to do is get eliminated. It’s not an actual location on the map, just a clever little reference.
Eliminate boss guards or bosses
We’ve had a little too many boss Quests this far in, but luckily, this is the last. Visit any boss on the Island and defeat them and/or their guards to complete this quest. I recommend aiming for the guards first, as they’re easier to eliminate.
Survive Storm circles
There are ten maximum Storm circles in a match, though most players will typically survive 4-5 Storm circles in the average Battle Royale match. You need to survive a total of ten, which you should naturally do while completing the other Pirate Code Quests.
Catch fish
Grab a fishing rod from any of the locations marked on the map above and head to open waters. Look for pools of fish, then swing your hook and catch three fish to complete the final Pirate Code Quest!
A Pirate’s Life – How to plunder Gold Bars
This “plunder gold bars” quest has ten total steps, increasing the number of bars required for every step. Gold bars can be collected through the following methods:
- Eliminating players
- Opening containers, cash registers, and safes
- Destroying washing machines, couches, and beds
- Completing certain NPC quests
- Throwing an EMP at any vending machine
- Completing bounties (briefings)
- Destroying Bars in Bunkers
