Fortnite fan theory suggests Jonesy’s greatest nemesis is his inability to tie shoelaces

A shoe conspiracy? Knot so fast.

What if I told you that Jonesy — Fortnite’s most iconic character — has no idea how to tie his shoelaces? It sounds outlandish and is ultimately inconsequential, but this Fortnite fan theory may be onto something.

Fortnite’s most recent season features the “Vengeance Jones” skin, which sees Jonesy suited up and ready to avenge Peely. /u/TheJahoyden posted on the /r/FortniteBR subreddit, explaining how his wife’s observation of “how ridiculous Vengeance Jones’ shoes are” led the pair to theorize that Agent Jones may have no clue how to tie his laces.

Can Fortnite’s Agent Jones tie his shoelaces?

The timey-wimey shenanigans in “The Big Bang” live event resulted in Fortnite entering a brand-new timeline with Chapter Five. Despite the Island’s fresh start, Agent Jones is likely the same character we’ve grown to love.

TheJahoyden points out that until Chapter Five, Jones and his Snapshots are usually seen either barefoot or in tied shoes. As soon as Chapter Five rolls around, Jonesy is sporting a brand-new pair of laceless boots. Why? Because he has nobody to tie them for him.

After this intriguing read, I skimmed my Locker and noticed that Bunker Jonesy adds validity to this wild theory. Jones entered the bunker with a pair of laced boots, reemerging in the future with one bare foot and the other wrapped in bandages. Did Jones lose his shoes, or did he not know how to put them back on?

Okay, yes. This theory is incredibly silly, and Fortnite’s designers probably aren’t part of a footwear conspiracy. Still, the headcanon that someone who has lived for thousands of years and saved the omniverse countless times relies on friends to tie his shoes is fantastic.

With the original post totaling over 1.7k upvotes and a screenshot on X receiving 1.5k likes, it’s clear others in the Fortnite community enjoyed this theory, too. My favorite comment is from /u/Chance-Order-5385, who concludes that Jones needs to rescue Peely to tie his laces.

TheJahoyden finishes his theory by mentioning that Midas has never been seen in shoes with laces. You can read more about that theory here. Perhaps a Fortnite shoe conspiracy is afoot.

Speaking of Chapter Five, Fortnite’s first update of 2024 adds a brand-new weapon and healing item you can check out here.
