Fortnite battle royale players concerned about addition of skill-based matchmaking

In the recent Fortnite development update from Epic there was a small entry regarding matchmaking improvements. The single sentence indicates that some kind of skill-based matchmaking will be implemented.

Epic says, “We are working on changes to matchmaking that are aimed at creating matches with a more balanced distribution of skill”. This has not gone down well with a large portion of the community who think it’s not in the spirit of battle royale. Since the announcement, the subreddit has lit up with complaints about the possibility of its addition.

There are two ways to look at this. Add it and players should end up with more challenging matches based on playing against players of a similar skill level. Don’t add it and have seasoned players stomp all over new players time after time. There is also a valid argument that you won’t improve unless you play against others that are better than you. Add skill-based matchmaking and players might not improve as quickly as they would without it.

Based on what Epic did to Paragon, they have a tendency to really screw things up. Even if the majority of the community doesn’t want skill-based matchmaking added to Fortnite, Epic would probably still give it a try.

It’s ironic that the one thing Paragon players wanted and needed for well over a year could end up on Fortnite and that community appears to be railing against it.

Whether you would like to see it or not, Fornite players will be watching closely to see what Epic does, but so far they have failed to respond to concerns publically. Is this Paragon all over again?
