If you’re here to figure out how to fix the bug where Shadowheart isn’t following your party in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3), you’ve come to the right place.
I’ve personally experienced this bug when I jumped into an old save. It’s been a recurring issue since Patch 4 was released, but luckily we’ve some possible solutions.
Baldur’s Gate 3: Shadowheart not following party bug fix
Typically, when Group Mode is on, all your party members should follow whoever you’re controlling. Unfortunately, many players post-Patch 4 have experienced an annoying issue where Shadowheart refuses to follow. Some of the possible solutions to make Shadowheart follow in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) involve quicksaving and quickloading, amongst others.
On Reddit, one player complained about this annoying bug. Other BG3 players responded with a possible fix. If you press F5 on your keyboard, it’ll trigger a quicksave. Then if you press F8, you’ll quickload your previous save. This apparently works and you should start seeing Shadowheart follow your party.

I tried out this solution, and it worked to fix the bug for me! But if you still aren’t seeing anything change, here are a few other solutions that could work:
- Check for outdated mods.
- Take Shadowheart out of your party, then add her back in.
- Let Shadowheart die, then have Withers revive her.
- Verify the integrity of your game files.
- Right-click game in Steam library, select “Properties,” look under “Local Files,” then select “Verify integrity of game files.”
- Restart your PC.
- Uninstall/reinstall Baldur’s Gate 3.
I honestly don’t believe this bug will lead you down any of these paths since I fixed the bug myself with F5 and F8. But if all else fails, simply wait for Larian Studios to fix this in a future Hotfix or Patch.
