Barret was a potential option for the Gold Saucer date in the original Final Fantasy 7, but it was really a joke scene for players who completely ignored the other party members. Thankfully, Barret gets the romance he deserves in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Barret is an eligible bachelor who can be romanced by Cloud and taken on a date at the Gold Saucer in the later chapters of the game, and while his date scene might not be as intimate as the others, it’s still a sweet moment between bros. The game really pushes you towards the women of the party for romance, however, so you’ll have to go out of your way to raise your relationship level with Barret higher than everyone else.
How to Romance Barret in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
To romance Barret at the Gold Saucer in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you need to earn enough relationship points with him to put his relationship level higher than the rest of the party. You can raise relationship levels in FF7 Rebirth by choosing the best dialogue options during cutscenes, completing side quests involving your special someone, and even activating Synergy attacks for the first time.
You can check your relationship with Barret and other party members at any time by pressing the L1 button outside of combat. This will show icons above each character’s head depicting their bond level. There are a few missable things as well, so keep reading to see every way to deepen your bond with Barret in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Missable Barret Relationship Boosts
There are a handful of moments throughout the main story of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth where you can strengthen your relationship with Barret outside of side quests and dialogue options. The first is during the battle with Hojo at Costa del Sol in Chapter 6. When prompted, choose to help Aerith and Barret instead of Tifa and Red XIII.
Later on in Chapter 7, you’ll be forced to choose between two routes for the minecart leading to North Corel. If you choose Barret’s preferred route instead of Yuffie’s, you’ll earn some relationship points. Finally, if you perform well during the escape sequence in Chapter 8 where you play as Barret, you’ll earn some more relationship points.
There are a surprising number of ways to grow closer to Barret throughout your adventure in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, but you’ll need to spend some time taking care of side quests and ignoring the main story for a while if you want to end up dating him at the Gold Saucer. It’s really easy to end up romancing Aerith or another party member without even realizing it, so make sure to check in with Barret often.
