Warzone File Size

Big file size reductions are coming to Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare

Shrinkage.

If you’re a fan of 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare or Call of Duty: Warzone, you know big file sizes. Those games are absolutely massive, and when you have both of them installed, well, they may as well own your drive. If you decide you want to play Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War too, then Activision definitely owns one of your drives. Thankfully, that may be changing soon. Season two reloaded for Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War is bringing a ton of new content with it. However, Modern Warfare and Warzone players will be benefitting as well, in the form of heavily reduced file sizes.

Depending on how you have the games downloaded, you’ll see different file size reductions in Modern Warfare and Warzone. According to a post on the Call of Duty website, PC players of Warzone can expect the game’s file size to shrink by 11.8 GB. That’s not a whole lot, but if you have both Modern Warfare and Warzone installed, there’s a lot more fat to trim. Specifically, a whopping 30.6 GB of fat. That’s a huge difference for the game, which currently takes up a total of 139 GB on my M.2. And that’s without any Modern Warfare content installed besides the game’s multiplayer.

New Content for Cold War

While it’s exciting that we’re going to get some seriously smaller file sizes, today’s update from Activision is more about Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War. We’re moving into the second half of that game’s second season, and with it a ton of content is arriving.

First up are three new maps for Cold War. Miami Strike is a daytime version of Miami with a new layout. The game’s nighttime version is pretty large and open, while this iteration of the map should see more close-quarters combat in back alleys, buildings, and parking structures. The second map is Mansion, built for gunfight and face off. Like many other maps in Cold War, there are multiple ways to position yourself even on this tiny map, so look out for those unexpected angles. Finally, Golova is coming to multiplayer as a multi-team game mode map. This area debuted earlier this season in Outbreak.

Along with new maps, a number of new game modes and additions to current game modes are on the way. A multi-team hardpoint game mode is being added, along with gunsmith customs. New prop hunt maps are also being added.

Cold War is also going through some balancing changes. The game’s weapons and attachments are receiving some tweaks, which includes “a complete balance pass on several attachments for assault rifles and SMGs.” You can see what changes have been made in a blog post on Treyarch’s site.
