FFXIV: Starlight 2023 quest guide and rewards

Friendship transcends distance.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year in Eorzea! Starlight, the XIV version of Christmas, has come to town in the form of the limited-time event from December 15 to December 31, and this year we get another Saint costume- here’s the full Starlight 2023 event quest guide and rewards for FFXIV.

As usual, Starlight events occur in Old Gridania at Mih Khetto’s Amphitheatre on the stage, which you can easily get to by teleporting to New Gridania and using the Aetheryte of the same name as the location. There you’ll find the Bearded Lady at (11.0, 9.3) with the quest Blue Starlight. You must be level 15. There are no other requirements to participate in the festivities!

If you’ve done Starlight before, Amh Garanjy will ask you if you remember her before she removes the hat and beard. She explains this year they’re honoring the Saint of Nymeia by dressing up as the mythical figure and handing out presents, but one child seems distressed. You’re asked to investigate on her behalf. You’re joined by a young Elezen girl named Saulienne who first noticed the boy in hopes of resolving it together.

Your first task is to investigate for information just outside of the Amphitheatre. Talk to Cheerful Cherub at (9.0, 7.9) in front of the Whistling Miller, Playful Poppet (8.5, 8.6) across the bridge to the south, and the Watchful Wailer to the west of both locations on the path between (8.2, 7.5). Then report back to Saulienne (9.6, 8.6) by the Amphitheatre.

Use the Aetheryte behind you to go to the Botanist’s Guild. The boy is just over the bridge (4.7, 7.3) behind you to talk to. After the kids discuss Tenny’s loneliness for leaving his friends behind in Ul’dah, you are called upon as the responsible adult of the situation to make a call on what to do.

  • Sounds like something that three tickets to Gridania could fix: Tenny says it’s too far away.
  • Nothing screams “Friendship, kupo!” like moogle mail: The correct choice.
  • Pack your bags, kid–I’m smuggling you back to Ul’dah: Tenny declines, for obvious reasons.

Right on cue, Godbert Manderville appears as the Saint of Nymeia. He asks you to hand deliver the presents Tenny makes for his friends. This concludes the first quest, so return to Amh Garanjy at the Amphitheatre to complete it and get the Unorthodox Saint’s costume set.

Starlight 2023 part two: ‘Together at a Distance’

The second quest is Together at a Distance. To proceed, you have to equip the full set you just received to your character. Now use the Aetheryte to return to the Botanist’s guild and talk to Tenny in the same place you left him.

In a rare break from tradition, we have to teleport to Ul’dah to continue the quest line. Aetheryte over to the Adventurer’s Guild once you’re there and talk to Momolao at (11.7, 8.5). Then Aetheryte over to the Weaver’s Guild. Travel southwest and up the stairs to find Othuel at (12.7, 13.3). Larkin is in the very center of the map at (11.4, 11.3). Now return to New Gridania and Aetheryte back over to the Botanist’s Guild back to Tenny. After the cutscene, the quest is completable back at Amh Garanjy.

Rewards and bonus material

You’ll receive 1440 EXP and 1352 gil for completing the quest. But there’s another optional bonus quest, Starlight Surprise, available from Amh Garanjy, allowing you to give out gifts to children and see what other NPCs have come down for the holiday.

If you’re curious, here’s the full list:

  • A deluxe Bismarck poundcake: Merlwyb herself is just finishing up business and seeing the festives.
  • A pair of warm Fen-Yll boots: Kan-E-Senna and her bodyguard come by, and she tells you a small story about her youth.
  • A Sunsilk Tapestries winter coat: Momodi is happy to be down here and see you giving the coat out.
  • A mammet produced by the Skysteel Manufactory: Honoroit tells you about his study of how the Ishgardian holiday is celebrated elsewhere.
  • A pair of mittens knitted with Azim Steppe wool: Magnai of all people shows up, and even notes your surprise. To no one’s surprise, he’s still trying to find his Nhaama. This is hands down the funniest option to pick.
  • A Sharlayan ring of wisdom: Ameliance and Fourchenault, who I never wanted to see the face of again, show up, and Ameliance tells you a story about the twins. You also get to see her prime her husband to give her a gift, which is almost worth seeing him at all if you ask me.

To get the Illuminated Topiary Chocobo outdoor furnishing, speak to the Starlight Supplier outside the Amphitheatre at (10.6, 8.7) and purchase it for 3,000 gil.

Otherwise, you can spot more NPCs unlabelled around Old Gridania!

  • Last year’s Laurenssen and Blitzen the Reindeer are at (10.7, 8.7).
  • Khloe and Zhloe are together at (10.5, 8.6).
  • Carvallain of all people is leaning against the fence inside the Amphitheatre at (10.8, 8.9).
  • Rhoswen is not too far away looking at a snowman at (9.8, 8.4). They’re both contemplating why the other is there, and snow is white. It seems these two are a theme of the 2023 events.

That’s everything for the Starlight 2023 quest guide and rewards in FFXIV. Honestly, the entire event was worth it for Magnai alone.

This set of quests was pretty straightforward. If you’re looking for a guide on a more complex FFXIV topic, try reading our guide on the Housing Lottery schedule.
